Last night was the official opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for The Arena At Southlake, Georgia's newest mid-sized arena. AH&P is proud to have provided the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering for the new building. More than just a performance venue, built and owned by Clayton County Public Schools as a multi-use facility to serve their students and their community. The arena will serve as their convocation center and also houses a JA of Georgia Delta Discovery Center and a Student Creator Studio that will be used by students throughout the school year. CCPS partnered with TRP Now to manage the arena itself, which will hosts all kinds of performances, conventions, and various competitions. The ribbon cutting ceremony was hosted by Rashan Ali and featured music from the Jonesboro HS and Morrow HS marching bands and remarks from various CCPS board members, current and former superintendents, and other community leaders. Here are a few photos from the ribbon cutting and there are additional photos in the link below. Stay tuned for a more thorough photo gallery and video of the entire facility.

AH&P is proud to announce Brandon Caves has become a partner and principal of the firm. Brandon worked in plumbing before joining our Commissioning department nearly 16 years ago. Brandon has been leading the Commissioning department for about 10 years. This milestone reflects Brandon’s long standing commitment to our mission, values, and long term success. Please join us in congratulating Brandon on this significant achievement and in recognizing the dedication and leadership that have brought him to this moment.

“If I could give you one piece of advice, it’s to strive for excellence – do good work. If you do that, everything else will work itself out.”
--Chuck Hammock

Last night AH&P gathered to celebrate the retirement of one of our original founding principals Mr. Chuck Hammock. Chuck, Al Andrews, and Ed Powell began working together in 1984 at another engineering firm. Four years later, in 1988, they went out on their own and started AH&P. Several people shared stories about how Chuck has positively affected their lives, both their professional and their private lives. And after so many years together (many folks have been working with Chuck for over 20 years) there were a lot of stories to share. There were stories of all-nighters in the office to finish projects, mentoring young engineers who had just joined the company, that time Chuck installed gas piping at Wesley’s house, when he and his wife set a young Ed Powell up on a blind date to a lovely woman he eventually married, stories of dehumidifying chicken processing plants, and a tale of learning how to juggle hot coals from a campfire. AH&P is a special place to work because it is truly like a second family, and that is thanks to men like Chuck. Chuck will still be around the office just a bit here and there to finish up a long term project, but his time will mostly be spent doing the things he loves. Spending time with his family, his new grandson he’s particularly fond of, and continuing his community service work with Habitat for Humanity and the annual Christmas light display in Mercer Village.

As a fun last comment – at the end of the night when it was Chuck’s turn to give a speech, we had 18mins left in the space we rented. He talked for 40 minutes. If you know Chuck, you know that’s right on brand!

From all of us here at AH&P – thanks for everything Chuck, truly. Enjoy your retirement!

Safety reminder - with these summertime thunderstorms coming through almost daily, stay inside when lightening is popping off in the area!! Exciting times earlier this week when lightning hit a tree on the edge of our parking lot, thankfully no one was hurt, and no damage was done to the office or employee vehicles!. Stay safe out there folks!

And finally Noah Barnes is about to be a sophomore at Georgia Southern and is working in the mechanical group.

Here's a quick peak of a project of ours that's under construction, a convocation center / performance arena for Clayton County Public Schools. The first picture is a 'before' - the new arena has replaced the old Sears building at South Lake Mall.
