It’s the middle of ginning season. Your module feeder stops. A component in your controls failed… and no one can find a replacement! 😨

That’s the kind of problem that turns a small failure into hours (or days) of lost production. ⚠️

Two forward-thinking gins decided not to wait for that scenario.

We recently completed new module feeder controls for Tri-County Gin in Chattanooga, OK, and Street Community Gin, replacing controls Lubbock Electric originally built for them 15+ years ago.

The controls were still working well overall, but small components had begun failing, and those components, along with the PLC, are now obsolete and increasingly difficult to replace.

Rather than gamble on obsolete technology during ginning season, both gins chose to get ahead of the problem. ⚙️

Is your gin relying on obsolete controls?

There may not be enough time to build new controls before this season, but there is time to understand your risk and develop a plan.

Give us a call for a controls risk assessment. We’ll talk through what you have, what could fail, and what mitigation strategies make sense, including getting your gin on the list for new controls next year.

Don’t wait for a component to fail to find out you can’t replace it.

Forward-thinking gins don’t wait for the industry to change. They prepare for what’s next. 🌱⚙️

That’s exactly what Quarterway Cotton Growers is doing with the installation of a new automatic bagger to improve efficiency and reliability in their bale handling process.

This morning, our electricans loaded a truck and headed to the gin. 🚛 Our team will re-route control and motor conduit, install new service pipe to the bagger, and make PLC changes to the press controls.

Quarterway is keeping a thumb on the pulse of the industry, and we’re proud to be the trusted electrical and controls partner helping them move forward.

With more than 80 years of experience with cotton gin electrical systems and controls, we understand what it takes to help gins modernize with confidence.

Focus on what’s next. We’ll help you get there.

⚙️ A few thousandths of an inch can make a big difference when your equipment is running 24/7.

Shaft alignment plays a critical role in rotating equipment reliability. Poor alignment can contribute to vibration, premature bearing and coupling wear, mechanical seal problems, and ultimately unplanned downtime.

Recently, our team completed hands-on shaft alignment training provided by LUDECA, covering measurement accuracy, tolerances, soft foot, thermal growth, troubleshooting, and alignment procedures.

Using alignment simulators, our senior and junior technicians worked through measurement and correction exercises, including a final challenge where teams deliberately misaligned each other’s machines and had to diagnose and correct the problem. 🔎

The purpose of this training isn’t simply to make our technicians better at alignment.

It’s to give you, our customers, a team with the knowledge and practical experience to identify problems, perform corrective work precisely, and help you prevent equipment failures before the interrupt production. 💪

We invest in our expertise so you can have greater confidence in your equipment’s reliability. 📈

250 years ago today, the 1776 Continental Congress voted for independence from Great Britain. John Adams, a Massachusetts delegate to Congress, believed that July 2nd, not the 4th, would be the date Americans celebrated for generations. He was two days off, but we think he'd have enjoyed the fireworks, food, and festivities anyway. 🎆🌭🗽

Lubbock Electric will be closed on Friday, July 3rd. We wish you a star-spangled Independence Day!

Our commitment to customer success doesn’t end when the motor leaves our shop.

Recently, a 500 HP motor that our team completely rewound was being installed at an oilfield site. During the installation, the electrical contractor had questions about the motor’s electrical configuration and how to connect the leads to power.

Rather than leaving the contractor to sort it out alone, Mike H., an experienced winder, provided technical guidance over the phone with his EASA Electrical Engineering Pocket Handbook to help ensure the motor was connected correctly and confidently.

The result? No delays, no headaches, and a smoother startup for our customer.

At Lubbock Electric, we know that getting equipment repaired is only part of the job. Our customers need their operations running safely and reliably. That’s why we’re committed to providing technical support when questions arise, even after the repair is complete.

Follow-up on the 900 HP fan motor we recently featured 👉 the investigation is complete, and the results were surprising.

After experiencing vibration and bearing failures during the motor's first year of service, our customer set out to find the real cause. Working together, we discovered the rotor had been balanced for a standard half-key configuration, but the application used a coupling with a tall, heavy key. When tested with the coupling and fan installed, the drive end was out of balance by more than 1,500 gram-inches.

⚙️ We rebalanced the rotating assembly with the actual application components installed, bringing it within tolerance. The result? A clearer path to improved reliability and longer bearing life.

💡 Takeaway for maintenance and reliability teams: When purchasing a new motor, make sure the manufacturer understands your application's specific coupling and balance requirements and ask how the rotor was balanced at the factory.

For critical applications, consider having the motor and mounted components balance-tested together at our service center before installation. A little verification upfront can help prevent costly vibration issues and premature bearing failures later.

When a 900 HP, 4160V fan motor at a power generation facility began experiencing premature bearing failures, the electrical foreman didn’t settle for replacing parts and hoping for the best. ⚙️ He’s gathering data to find the root cause. 🔎

With the motor in our shop, we’re performing vibration testing and comparing our readings to data collected while the motor was operating in the field. 📊 Together, we’re working to uncover what’s causing the problem and help prevent future failures.

Our mission isn't just repairing motors. It's helping maintenance professionals make informed decisions that keep critical operations running with confidence. 💪
