We’re excited to share that KTI and Maxcess are partnering to demonstrate an integrated automated finishing line at Loupe Americas 2026!

Featured by Labels & Labeling, the live demonstration will showcase a complete unwind-to-slit-to-rewind workflow at KTI Booth 840.

The system combines:
• KTI ZC Series Cantilever Butt Splicer
• Maxcess Tidland SmartSlit automated slitting system
• KTI MTR Series Turret Rewinder
• Fife web guiding technology

Together, these technologies demonstrate how an integrated finishing process can help reduce manual intervention, shorten setup and changeover times, and improve material flow.

📍 Visit us at Booth 840 at Loupe Americas 2026 to see the system running live!

What Is a Web Splicer — and Why Does It Matter?

If your production line runs rolls of paper, film, foil, labels, packaging materials, or other flexible web materials, roll changes can become a major source of downtime.

That’s where a web splicer comes in.

A web splicer automatically joins the end of an expiring roll to the beginning of a new roll, allowing production to continue with little or no interruption. Many systems use an accumulator, or festoon, to store a small amount of material while the splice takes place.

The result? Less downtime during roll changes, reduced material waste, and a more continuous production process.

There are different types of splicing methods, too. Lap splicers overlap the two webs, while butt splicers join the edges without an overlap. The right approach depends on the material, application, web width, line speed, and finished-product requirements.

At KTI, web splicing is at the heart of what we do. Our equipment is designed for applications across printing, packaging, converting, tag and label, narrow-web film, and more.

Curious whether a web splicer could improve your process?

Some film from our golf event! ⛳️

At Quantum Design, we try to prioritize making this a place where you want to wake up and come to work each morning. One of the ways we do that is through employee appreciation and creating opportunities to connect outside of the everyday work environment.

It was so nice getting out on the golf course, enjoying some time together, and getting to know everyone on the team a little better!

We’re grateful for our team and the opportunity to spend time together, on and off the course! ⚙️🌟🤍

Safety PLCs Explained: More Than Just an Emergency Stop

When people hear the term Safety PLC, they often assume it's simply another controller with a few extra safety features.

In reality, Safety PLCs are designed specifically to help protect people, equipment, and processes in environments where machine safety is critical.

Unlike standard PLCs, Safety PLCs continuously monitor safety devices such as emergency stops, safety light curtains, interlock switches, safety mats, and other protective systems. They are designed with redundant architectures and self-diagnostic capabilities that help detect failures before they create unsafe conditions.

The result? Safer operations, improved machine availability, and greater flexibility compared to traditional hardwired safety circuits.

Safety PLCs are commonly used in:
✔ Robotics cells
✔ Packaging equipment
✔ Material handling systems
✔ Manufacturing lines
✔ Automated production processes

As facilities pursue higher levels of automation, Safety PLCs are becoming an essential part of modern machine design and risk reduction strategies.

At QDI Control Systems, we help manufacturers integrate safety systems that support both operational efficiency and worker protection.

Have you implemented Safety PLCs in your facility? What benefits have you seen?
