I repair automotive castings.

I’m a welder by trade, ended up becoming a machinist that specializes in dimensional restoration on automotive castings. I spend lots of time either fixing mismachined parts or repairing damage from failures or shoddy work. The little cylinder heads are Porsches, I weld those using straight helium on AC with a DCEN pulse.

Sometimes I’ll just use straight argon, but bigger repairs or things that are really high value or high risk get done with helium as I can get in and out without putting a ton of heat into the part. This also helps when I get to the machining stage because things don’t move around as much.

Feel free to ask me whatever you like, I’m always happy to share!

Brand new welder do these look about right?
Doing .023 wire on 18gauge metal with argon co2 mix mig welding. I'm using arc captain mig 200 and the suggested settings were 17.5v and 10mpm for this according to the chart. It seemed really high compared to what others were saying on here for their sheet metal work.

Do these spot welds (.4 seconds) look about right?

These photos are front and back.

I strongly dislike welding rebar

That's it that's the post.

Alright I'm throwing in an edit, because so many people are telling me not to weld rebar. This is A706W Rebar, designed for welding. Customer provided materials. it's supposed to get welded with 5/16ths fillet weld, which sits right underneath and is flush with the lip. You're not supposed to tack weld rebar according AWS D.1.4. Yes, I'm not prepping materials, due to the customers needs. It still passes destructive testing, breaks at around 100,000-110,000 PSI, needs to meet 90,000 psi.

FCAW new wire making holes despite same brand, amperage, and size?

So I got started with a cheap furious fcaw machine, I bought 2 0.8mm wire and started welding, it was all going well, until I ran out of it and bought new rolls, but now I can't weld, it will just melt the metal and make holes.

I made sure to set the same amperage, the same size, even the same brand, but it just doesn't work.

I even lowered the amperage as low as it would go, 30a, but it still made a mess.

Can someone please help me?

(I got the image off google but that's pretty much what happens to me)
