Calculus and Crack is the coming of age story of Daiquan Johnson, a young black male from South Central Los Angeles growing up during the late1980s era crack cocaine boom. He’s slow to learn, but the lack of smarts does not restrict his desire to be more than just the average black kid from the hood. Daiquan soon finds value in academics when he is inspired by the reading abilities of a little bla

ck kid at his new elementary school. Daiquan is mechanically minded and loves taking things apart, and on one curious venture, his mischief came close to a deadly end. Gradually, he gets good at mechanics and electrical stuff, and becomes the neighborhood contact for extremely loud car stereo sound system installations. On occasion, his customers include high rolling drug dealers, and Daiquan makes good money. But he soon discovers nothing comes close to the financial gains the white rock could bring. His favorite task ‘be that” hooking up wires. A future career as an electrician is the job for him until his mother informs him that engineers hook up wires too, but make abundance more money. With the help and guidance from his unusual young female flesh loving high school history teacher, and a few miracles, Daiquan gets accepted to college. But not before he finds out that his high school dropout girlfriend is pregnant. His path to college is not detoured as Daiquan tries hard to navigate higher education, a new baby, and baby-mama drama. With a mountain of problems already in queue, nothing proves more troublesome to Daiquan than his Calculus class and the prejudice professor who seems to have it in for the dark colored engineering student. He's away at school, but maintains his connection in the hood with his friends, especially his best friend with the nickname Cat killa. When differential equations and the theory of positive and negative infinities begin to get the best of him, he finds comfort in three students whom look like him and struggle with the same ancient math. But the help of his new crew may not prove mathematically correct, when all hell breaks loose, and Daiquan must make the decision to go with Calculus, which equates to a college degree or stay with the Crack which derives fast money, and a life expectancy of less than twenty five years.
