Last week, while we, the owners of WoofersEtc, were attending proceedings in North Carolina Superior Court related to the Sundown Audio lawsuit, we saw something in the courthouse lobby that deeply moved us emotionally, "The Missing Man Table.”
Living our entire lives in California, we had never seen this display before, and it impacted us so deeply that we took these pictures.
This beautiful and solemn display honors the brave soldiers, men and women who went out to defend our country, but whose ultimate fate was never fully known.
Seeing the thoughtful detail and symbolism behind every item on the table was incredibly powerful to us as proud Americans. At a time when we were personally witnessing the justice system functioning fairly and respectfully, this tribute served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who protect the freedoms we all rely on every single day.
We took these photos because the words and meaning behind this memorial deserve to be read, reflected upon, and remembered.
Missing Man Table
The table that stands before you is a place of honor.
In setting this table, we acknowledge those missing from our celebrations and we remember them.
*The table is round to show our everlasting concern.
*The tablecloth is white, symbolizing the purity of their motives when answering the call to serve.
*The single red rose reminds us of the lives of these Americans...and the loved ones and friends who keep the faith, awaiting answers.
*The yellow ribbon symbolizes our continued uncertainty, hope for their return, and determination to account for them.
*A slice of lemon reminds us of their bitter fate, captured or missing in a foreign land.
*A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears of our missing and their families.
*The lighted candle reflects our hope for their return.
*The bound text is a book of faith to represent the strength gained through devotion to sustain those lost from our country.
*The glasses are inverted to symbolize their inability to share a toast.
*The chair is empty. They are missing.
To all those who served, sacrificed, and never made it home on this Memorial Day holiday weekend we remember you, we honor you, and we thank you!
God Bless our military, the brave men and women who currently serve and have served our country, and God Bless America! 🇺🇸
