If Angelenos wanted to go shopping for clothes in 1956, they could have started on this stretch of Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. We’re looking north toward 6th St and can see Zukor’s, which was a stylish chain of clothing stores that marketed to middle-to-upper-class women. On the other side of 6th we can see Swelldom which I’ve seen described as a women’s "cloak and suit house" (which I think dates back to its 1906 beginnings.) And farther up Broadway was Richman Brothers, a chain of menswear (and subsidiary of Woolworth’s.) And all of them conveniently located on the same side of the street! (Source: pacificelectric.org)
