POSITONS TITLE: Commercialization Engineering Manager
DEPARTMENT: Engineering
TITLE OF IMMEDIATE MANAGER/SUPERVISOR: Sr. Engineering Manager
BRIEF SUMMARY:
The Commercialization Engineering Manager provides overall direction and coordination of new products, engineering changes and continuous improvement/lean projects within the manufacturing environment. This position requires interaction with customers to resolve technical problems, quality issues, launch new products and focus on productivity improvements. This position requires a very hands-on approach with significant time spent both on the plant floor and collaborating with team members. The Chatsworth plant produces FDA regulated OTC products as a contract manufacturer. The Chatsworth facility specializes in short production runs that require frequent line changeovers and introduces 200-300 new products per year.
COMMERCIALIZATION ENGINEERING:
Manage new product engineering for all customers to ensure filling line scale-up from concept to manufacturing is successful:
a. Organize, track, and project manage each new product using standardized methods.
b. Communicate with customers to provide updates, request information and materials, and manage timelines. Use design-for-manufacturability concepts to influence successful outcomes.
c. Ensure that new product costs are accurate and developed in a timely manner. Manage acquisition of change parts in accordance to budgeted/approved costs.
d. Coordinate line trials to ensure first-pass-right on launches and achieve margins.
e. Leverage and manage maintenance resources and equipment vendors to support the efforts to successfully execute new products and create customer satisfaction. 60%
ENGINEERING PROJECTS:
Partner with Maintenance and Manufacturing to improve line productivity, increase line and batching efficiency:
a. Devise technical/engineering solutions to increase line speed, reduce labor requirements and/or eliminate quality defects
b. Leverage the use of Lean/Six Sigma tools and processes to improve performance 40%
PREFERED EXPERIENCE:
5+ years of Package or Design Engineering experience in the consumer packaged goods and/or contract manufacturing industries with customer interface
2+ years of Supervisory experience in engineering or related function
2+ years of Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma experience in a manufacturing setting
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE:
3 years engineering + 1 year supervisory + 1 year Lean experience
EDUCATION:
Preferred: MBA or graduate degree in related Engineering field Minimum Acceptable: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

PMI certification is desirable
