This overall renovation in Palo Alto brought new light and energy to the original Tudor home (enjoy the before and after pics). A key improvement was expanding the opening between the entry and living room, to be more welcoming and allow the stair to be a featured element. But more impactful was opening up the rear wall between existing trusses, to align with new French doors at the rear, allowing light and views to flood the living room.

We feel incredibly honored to have won the 2021 California Home & Design "Best Modern Update" award. Thanks for the great partnership Sullivan Design Studio.

Nestled on the campus of Stanford University, architects Young & Borlik and interior designer Linda Sullivan and Yoko Kato of Sullivan Design Studio remade a circa 1927 house to suit the family of a Stanford history professor, her attorney husband and their three growing kids. They skillfully reworked the house to conform to its original Tudor Revival aesthetic, duplicating the original handcrafted timbering on the exterior while completely reimagining its interior layout.
