🚛 Know Your Truck: 5 Signs Your Fifth Wheel Needs Replacement

1. Visible Cracks or Fractures: Inspect the casting and locking jaw for any cracks—this is a serious safety risk.

2. Excessive Play or Slop: More than ¼ inch of movement in the kingpin is too much and can lead to trailer sway.

3. Worn or Missing L**e Plate: A dry fifth wheel causes uneven wear and heat buildup. Keep it properly lubricated.

4. Difficult Coupling/Uncoupling: If the locking jaw is stiff or won’t release smoothly, worn internal parts may be the cause.

5. Rust & Corrosion Build-Up: Surface rust is normal, but deep pitting can weaken the metal—don’t ignore it.
