Although we still don't know what school will look like this year in our area, because they are still "discussing". Our team is still collecting school supplies for this year to donate to students who need them. Last year at the beginning of the school year Longview had 400 students registered as homeless. I'm sure with the COVID shut downs there will be a greater number this year and more families needing help. If anyone would like to help with school supplies please let us know. The greatest need will be the basics, pens, paper, pencils, spiral notebooks and composition books. We have enough backpacks for 600 students and this year with social distancing the plan is to have the backpacks pre-filled by school and grade and arrange to have them picked up where we can maintain social distancing.
If you know of a local student that will need a backpack and supplies, please PM with Grade & School ONLY. The idea is to collect grade & school information without personal information to have backpacks pre-made. Specifics of where to pick up will be coming soon, but anticipate driving up to a park and finding your school and grade and taking the backpack you need and leaving so that we can maintain social distancing protocols and still help everyone that needs it.
Backpacks will be set up for general supplies by grades without school specifics for those that don't have access to get the information but we'd like to prepare as many specific schools as possible.
All donations will need to be collected no later than Friday August 21st as the anticipation is to quickly put this together and distribute Saturday & Sunday the 22nd & 23rd of August.
If you would prefer to make a monetary donation please make it to Cowlitz Foot Patrol as their non profit will be hosting the event. You can contact them directly https://www.facebook.com/groups/cowlitzfootpatrol.org or donate on their website:
