Congrats are in order for our Mechanical Design Engineer Max Rooney, marking five years at P2S this September. Max speaks on drawing on the wisdom of those around him, the diversity of disciplines at P2S, and the space he found to grow. Here's to the impact of thoughtful mentorship and leadership!

🎂What's your favorite part about working at P2S?
My favorite part about working at P2S is being exposed to such a wide range of projects. Nothing is cut and paste here because every project is so different. Every day you are learning something new, and one of the major benefits of P2S is having so many engineering disciplines/specialties under one roof, with countless years of experience and wisdom just a short walk away.

🎂How has P2S helped progress your professional goals?
I feel P2S leadership is good at recognizing people’s individual strengths and helping them grow in ways that maybe they wouldn’t have expected otherwise. For me, this has meant entrusting me with projects in areas that I had less familiarity with, knowing I would be able to use my resources and what I have already learned to get the job done. It’s this trust that has built my confidence in mechanical design and significantly elevated my organizational/communication skills.

🎂Shoutout someone/a club/a group here at P2S?
I’d like to shout out the DOPE team and the Fitness Committee for facilitating connection in the office, keeping things fun, and giving us plenty of events to look forward to throughout each year.

A project that hit close to home, the P2S Lighting Studio took on the unique challenge of reimagining the corporate atmosphere at our own office in Seattle, WA. During the design process, finding creative yet subtle ways of promoting spontaneous conversation in certain areas but fostering concentration in others were among the many considerations.

What better way to celebrate a belated International Cat Day than getting to know your colleagues' cats! Our one-of-a-kind Meet-n-Eat challenged our staff to match fun facts with the right feline. Creative cat-themed snacks rounded out the afternoon, before our accounting intern Tyler Burkhart took home the grand prize!

P2S is honored to have been a part of last week's DBIA NextGen and Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Young Professionals event, generously hosted by the DBIA-WPR San Diego Chapter. In addition to our attending staff, our very own Federal Market Lead Bob Winter was among the four distinguished speakers discussing success strategies in federal and government design-build. The comprehensive panel factored in perspectives from different sides of the industry, including design, engineering, and contracting angles.

It was amazing to share the stage with professionals from Steinberg Hart, Latitude 33 Planning & Engineering, and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. What a valuable opportunity to learn from one another and an excellent forum for elevating our federal design-build best practices together!

Recipient of the California's 2025 Engineering Excellence Merit Award, our project at the California State University, Northridge put our Lighting Studio's expertise to the test.

The three-story Maple Hall operates within stringent energy consumption parameters, utilizing less than 85% of the standard design energy budget for indoor lighting. To make this happen, the P2S Lighting Studio used integrated sensors pre-configured to comply with energy consumption regulations.

Beyond its commitment to sustainability, Maple Hall is a study in visually continuous lighting design. Hemispheric light fixtures guide users into the grand atrium while ring fixtures mirror the building's curves, blending the indoor and outdoor spaces.

A big thank you to the A.O. Reed & Co. team for hosting the P2S team and giving us an incredible behind-the-scenes look at your operations!

Part of the family, opportunities like this are a great reminder of the strength we have when we bring our teams, expertise, and capabilities together.

From an impressive 0.53 EMR safety record to the scale of the prefabrication operation — and the upcoming 125,000 SF Vista facility — it was exciting to see the investment A.O. Reed is making in its people, safety, and capabilities to support the future of construction.

The scale of the prefab operation was truly impressive, especially seeing the amount of stainless-steel piping supporting the growing demand for data center work across the Legence family.

Thank you to Dillon Kaliszewski, William Snowden, and the entire A.O. Reed team for the hospitality. We’re excited about what we can accomplish together! 👏

Event #6 of our annual Fitness Challenge brought back foot golf! Our staff braved the weekend heat to make some lasting memories, from navigating around sand traps and ponds to finding some time to chat and unwind between kicks.

We may be over the halfway mark of our activities, but stay tuned: some of our most challenging events are still to come!

The P2S Lighting Studio works at the intersection of creativity and technology to approach to how light shapes the spaces around us. On our team's very own in-house P2S Lux Studio LinkedIn page, we’re sharing more of what goes into that work, from lighting concepts and project insights to the people and ideas behind our designs.

Our Ongoing Project Spotlights continue, now featuring this landmark project upgrading a range of facilities at The Huntington, a tourist attraction and research institution. Project Manager Nicholas Clements gives us his take on everything from collaborating with the contractor to navigating central utility plant challenges to implementing daylight analysis.

⚙️What are the goals and impact of this ongoing project?
This project at the Huntington Library Art Collections and Botanical Garden will demolish the original Myron-Hunt library, designed in 1919, and provide a new three-story building that includes updated storage of collections, preservation/conservation lab space, and staff offices. It'll also offer new scholar and research offices, an exhibit hall, a print and drawing study, meeting rooms, and artist studios, modernizing the museum's aesthetic as well as providing new functionality to its many visitors.

⚙️What is the project's current status?
P2S is currently providing Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Technology, Fire Protection, and Fire Alarm services. Additionally, we're ensuring collaboration with the general contractor to understand the project budget and estimates. Design is ongoing, we are planning to get it permitted soon, and we're looking at client turnover in October 2028.

⚙️What is one ongoing challenge and our solution?
One such challenge is regarding the existing capacity of the central utility plant, which has now turned into another project to be upgraded. The existing building was connected to other buildings and is now being separated through four-hour fire rated walls, making bringing in utilities difficult. As such, we are working closely with the other stakeholders and prioritizing this challenge as an additional secondary project. In terms of novel solutions, the energy team has used daylight analysis to determine the most effective slopes of the skylights above the conservation studio.
