Impact Insulation Class (IIC) is a single-number rating defined by ASTM E989 that measures how effectively a floor-ceiling assembly reduces impact sound transmission, such as footsteps, dropped objects, or dragging furniture.
The IIC rating indicates how effectively a floor-ceiling system reduces impact noise such as footsteps, dropped objects, or furniture movement. Higher values mean better performance.

IIC Range - Description - Use Cases
< 40 - Poor - Not suitable for residential; excessive footfall noise
40–50 - Marginal - Bare minimum; discomfort likely with hard flooring
50–59 - Moderate - Minimum for basic code compliance in residential buildings
60–69 - Good - Recommended for most multi-family, condo, and hotel projects
70+ - Excellent - Required in luxury apartments, healthcare, studios

GenieMat FF is recycled content underlayment engineered to significantly reduce impact sound transmission in flooring systems. Its core purpose is to act as a resilient, sound-isolating layer between the finished floor and the structural slab or subfloor.

Important Notes:
- IIC only applies to vertical sound transmission (from floor above).
- Consider STC (Sound Transmission Class) for airborne noise (like voices or music).
- Always evaluate field IIC (FIIC) when verifying site performance — actual installation and detailing matter significantly.
- Flanking noise paths (through walls, piping, or structural connections) can bypass acoustic layers, undermining lab-tested IIC values.
- Proper perimeter isolation and acoustic detailing are as critical as the materials themselves.

Housed spring isolators are mechanical devices designed to reduce the transmission of vibration and noise from equipment to building structures.
