***CELEBRATING 60 YEARS***

One pm on Friday of Memorial Day weekend, the VP of Operations called Bray Bourne asking for a miracle. Universal Steel had no involvement in the accident. We were asked to be part of the solution. The tower crane weights had fallen from the tower crane into the building in Midtown Atlanta. Streets had to be closed, and buildings had to be evacuated. The situation was critical. The Universal Steel shop had worked several weekends in a row and were shutting down at 2pm. The VP was asking if we could fabricate some braces to secure the town crane so the streets could be opened and the residence of the surrounding buildings could return to their offices and homes.

Bray’s first call was to a supplier to see if their second shift was working the Friday night of the Memorial weekend and if the team could produce the necessary material. The supplier understood the urgency and was able to produce and supply the material, but they could not delivery the material. Having procured the necessary material, Bray went to the shop to see if any of the team members could adjust their Holiday plans and come back on Saturday to fabricate and weld the frames. The plant manager, welders, and driver all agreed to help. There was no margin if we were going to accomplish the goal.

The material was ready by the supplier by 9am and our driver was waiting at the supplier to be loaded. By the time he arrived at Universal Steel the team was waiting to assemble and weld the plate assemblies. Everyone jumped in and built and welded the plate assemblies and by 4:30 pm the frames were headed to Midtown Atlanta. For the first time in Universal Steel history a Universal Steel truck received a police es**rt to the Jobsite (see previous weeks video).

Thanks to our suppliers, and the Universal Steel team who made this happen.

****Celebrating 60 Years****

The Chapel Hill High School modernization included extensive structural renovations and new construction across the existing campus. The project involved demolishing and rebuilding Buildings A and D, renovating Buildings B and C, and constructing new connector buildings to create a unified campus surrounding a central courtyard. Structural steel framing supported the new academic, administrative and technical-education spaces while integrating the new construction with the remaining facilities.
Completed through multiple phases on an active school campus, the structural work required careful coordination, sequencing and field installation. The finished framework helped create a safer, more efficient and modern educational facility while preserving the functionality of the existing campus.

The SCAD Atlanta Forty Four project was a major structural development as part of the university's Spring Street campus expansion in Midtown Atlanta. The first phase of the project consisted of the construction of a 10-story, 183,108-square-foot student residence hall featuring modern apartment- and suite-style housing, dining facilities, study areas, event spaces, and a parking garage.
