Sonksen Design

Sonksen Design A design and fabrication custom car business. Specializing in muscle cars and Corvettes.

Sonksen Design has been unofficially used for my car projects since the early '90s. Upon designing and manufacturing the HID custom headlights for C2 Vettes, it became an official business. I'll use this to post progress on my projects as well as my customers and other interesting car-related posts.

Rolling out the business name change today. Not many can pronounce, much less spell, my last name LOL. So welcome to Resto Mod Tech LLC! I'm appealing my case with Facebook to get the page name changed as well.

BTW- This is still the page to follow progress (such as it is) on my 1963 restomod Corvette and other cars.

2019 is going to be exciting with new products and capabilities in our hot rod shop! Here's a few teasers. More details to follow.

Flashback again! Since I dipped into the archive hard drive to find Mark's Firebird, I couldn't help but share another "pre-Facebook" Pontiac project. In 2003, while Tam and the kids were away for a few days (can't remember why), I executed a surprise plan to add a trick paint scheme on Tam's car (and yes, fake badge it as a GTP). When they came back, it was fun to see their surprise, seeing a transformed daily driver sitting in the driveway. Fun, but only once!

Group shot from shortly after doing her Pontiac. I may have not had the budget to build a car like the 80' or the 63' then, but I had enough to trick out our drivers. And don't ask about how the hours into that old boat...

Flashback!! After helping on Kevin's 68' Bird, I've been meaning to dig into the archives to post the other Firebird project from 2002(???). Troy and Mark Spear from my hometown asked me to do a little modifying on the hood. I didn't dig enough to find pictures of the car finished, let's see if they can comment and add a couple. It is a really nice street car!

Update on the Gen III lights.

Well, the prototype M-LEDs bolted into the ever-patient test mule and passed with flying colors! I hate to say it, but Rae (my 63) is jealous already.

Ready to move forward with water jetting components, new tools/equipment and much more to be ready with the next production run.

Oh, and the last HID set sold this week! Dang! I gotta get back to Rae soon!

Delivered Kevin's valance and bumper. Can't wait to see it in paint and chrome.

Great time to get away from an unusually frigid MO to connect with friends and customers. Scottsdale Barrett Jackson, you lived up to the billing!

Congrats to Chris Allison on a fantastic two cars that crossed the block!

When a good buddy asks you if you want to tackle some custom metal work and you fall in love with the concept... another example of why my 1963 Vette is going on 5 years.

1968 Firebird of Kevin Hall. More progress pictures to follow.

Always looking for improvements in design and manufacturing. Listened to customer feedback, researched latest projectors and took a fresh look at how to best build the product. Reverse engineering on the new projectors into 3d CAD, then some 3d printed prototypes ensued.

The result was a slightly larger housing for the outstanding Morimito LED projectors, reduced weight of the overall assembly along with lower lid frame that is more rigid along with other improvements. Competitive bids on the waterjet and clear lens sourcing as well.

Weld and mill fixtures have been built. Pneumatic tapping arm and other recent tools will add to efficiency ...and hopefully help reduce the product price.

Not everyone's idea of fun, but as a Tool & Die design professional I'm enjoying the development.

Heading this week to Scottsdale Barrett Jackson auction to meet some of my customers and maybe a little promotion!

Working on shop upgrades...again. Overhead hoist, metal working cart for English wheel and other tools and a refurbished parts washer exterior. Check the date of manufacturer on that beast! Upgraded both MIG and TIG welders a few months ago. I'm ready for another 30 years of fabrication.
