While most experts in the surface preparation and coatings industry say to avoid using glass beads in your wet or dry blasting machine because they won't create a good mechanical bond for coatings, where is the proof? We decided to put those claims to the test on three different materials.

First, we prepared aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel samples in both our wet and dry blast cabinets using 170–325 mesh glass beads at 60 PSI of operating pressure. After coating all of our pieces with Red C-Series Cerakote, we put the preparation methods to the ultimate adhesion test using ASTM D3359 standards!

When you're removing oxidation, grease, grime, or stubborn coatings, your best bet is usually a coarse abrasive with large, angular pieces like a 120 or 220 aluminum oxide. But what if you're looking to achieve a specific anchor profile or want to keep the tolerances of your part as tight as possible?

At V***r Blast MFG, we have a patented slurry pump designed specifically for exotic abrasives that can range all the way up to 5000 mesh. This pump can run for days or even weeks at a time to keep the abrasive suspended in the hopper and avoid hard packing.

In today's video, we are blasting an aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel sample with 2000 mesh aluminum oxide. Then, we compare the surface finishing results at a microscopic level to see which material performs the best!
