Wood is a natural material that acts like a sponge. It absorbs and releases moisture depending on the humidity of the surrounding air.

Follow these simple rules to keep your boards perfectly straight:
• Stack it flat. Lay your boards horizontally on a level surface. Never lean them vertically against a wall, or they will bow under their own weight.
• Use stickers. Place small, uniform wooden strips (called "stickers") between layers of stacked wood. This allows air to circulate evenly around all four sides of every board.

Everyone on our Big Sky Crew knows how important community is. Not only for the hard times, but also to share in the good and joyful moments! 🤝✨

An organization in our community that shares in the happiest times and helps shoulder the saddest is our very own Kootenai Pets for Life (KPFL). We have been eager and proud supporters of them for years. 🐾❤️

As the warm months wind down, the need for caring for the furry members of our community does not. Please remember to support and help uplift this wonderful organization—whether through volunteering, monetary donations, or a supply drop. Every little bit helps! 🐶🐱

Wood Staining 101: Get Professional Results at Home 🪵✨

Thinking about tackling a weekend DIY project? Whether you are refreshing an old coffee table or staining a new set of shelves, getting that flawless, rich finish is all in the technique. You don’t need to be a master carpenter to get professional results!

Before you open that can of stain, follow these three essential steps:
• Don't skip the sanding: Always sand in the direction of the wood grain. Start with a medium-grit sandpaper (like 120-grit) to remove imperfections, and finish with a fine-grit (220-grit) for a perfectly smooth surface.
• Use a pre-stain wood conditioner: This is the secret weapon for woods like pine, birch, or maple. It prevents blotchiness and ensures the stain absorbs evenly.
• Apply, wait, and wipe: Apply your stain with a high-quality brush or a clean cloth. Let it sit for the time recommended on the can (usually 5 to 15 minutes depending on how deep you want the color), then wipe off all the excess stain with a clean, dry cloth. Never let unabsorbed stain dry on the surface!

When a community gets together, so much good can be achieved!! 😎

Exciting progress at the Chamber & Visitor Information Center.. roof construction has officially begun!!

If you’re stopping by the Chamber/Visitor Center while work is underway, please park on the side of the building closest to the Venture Inn and use a little extra caution around the construction area.

This roof replacement is one of the first visible improvements underway as part of our Montana Tourism Development Grant project, which will support continued improvements to the Visitor Center and downtown Libby over the coming years.

A big thank you to the Montana Department of Commerce for making this project possible, and to Byron O'Bleness Construction for taking on the roof replacement.

We also want to recognize Big Sky Lumber Supply and Western Building Center for their generous contributions toward the project. Community partnerships like these help us stretch grant dollars further and make even more improvements possible.

We’re excited to see the work beginning, and there is much more to come!
