Okay so let’s look at the math on this 455 SBC AFR Max which means maxed out for this application . This is the fun part for me anyway.
4.190”Bore x 4.125” Stroke 6.250 Rod
9.325” Deck Height 16.5 Comp Ratio
245 AFR heads we ported in house.
2.125”Titanium 8mm Stem
1.600” Stainless Exh 8mm stem Changed head profile 300 227 CFM400 279500 322600 344700 366800 370900 375
1.00” 378. Exh 238
So based on 455 CUI Rpm max peak Hp@ 8100 Area. Ft/sec 8100
Intake Gskt area 3.61 sq. 300
Pushrod Pinch. 3.26 sq. 332
Short Side Radius 3.47 sq. 312
Throat area. 1.98D 3.07 sq. 351
The SSR is pushed to limit in size so 312
Ft/sec is to fast to go any more rpm 2 nd
choking at the throat so big lift and duration makes it hang on longer 3rd 330 up stream at Pushrod I wouldn’t expect much more rpm at of that area.
Exh ft/sec cfm vs size 230 cfm at lift
354 ft/sec seat I’d. and 266 exit perfect to get the job done .
So we just need to get the rpm mid 7000rpm plus to see 900 hp + with the comp ratio and the cfm available and if SSR doesn’t choke it and can make it above 7500 to 8100 without it stalling we have a winner 😀. If gives us anything extra in hp we will take and not complain.
Intake manifold is perfect The way I measure it the area says I’m at 192 Ft/Sec @8100 just what I need to get to the rpm’s needed . Also I have always liked the 2.125” valve in the AFR because of the spacing off the edge of the cylinder wall it helps so nothing weird happens around the cylinder wall . Hope this helps everyone understand what cylinder head guys and engine builders go through every day 😅

Our 925HP version of the 455 SBC 23-degree low port head AFR Max, custom ported in-house, yields 925 horsepower at 8100 RPM and 700 torque at 6500 RPM Q16 Fuel. We are extremely pleased with the results thus far, as it has proven to be a solid piece. After spending several days on the dyno testing various combinations, we believe there may be additional potential yet to be tapped. We are proud of our team, with Nathan handling assembly and Daniel overseeing custom machine work. Our intention is to share our results, not to engage in debate, and we take pride in the diligent effort we've invested.
