Ernest D. Menold, Inc.

Ernest D. Menold, Inc. We specialize in HVAC systems and custom fabrication of stainless steel, steel, and aluminum. Our company, Ernest D.

Menold, Inc., bears the name of its founder, a skilled sheet metal worker who started his own company in 1947. With a fabricating facility about the size of a one-car garage, we started by serving industrial and pharmaceutical companies in the Philadelphia area. From the very beginning we developed expertise in the fabrication and installation of dust and fume control systems for grain and sugar m

ills, sophisticated HVAC systems and specialty stainless steel fabrications for pharmaceutical companies, special cooling systems for power generating plants, paper mill maintenance and upgrade projects, and a variety of other special services for the industrial and commercial market. We are especially proud of the fact that several of our earliest customers are still steady customers today. Over the years our size and capabilities have increased, but our focus remains the same: Customer Service. In addition to all the services listed above, our trained staff and skilled workforce can test and balance new or existing air handling systems. Our firm is a certified member of the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) and all of our work in this area is subject to their rigid standards. We are also longstanding members of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA), and its local chapter, the Sheet Metal Contractors Association of Philadelphia and Vicinity (SMCA). We are also members of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The leadership of our company has been involved in many committees and task forces associated with both of these organizations on the national and local levels.

Back on May 6th at Rose Tree Park in Media, PA, law enforcement from across Delaware County took part in a Rededication Ceremony of the Delaware County Law Enforcement Memorial at Rose Tree Park honoring officers who have died in the line of duty in the county.

We were contracted by the Delaware County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation to assist in expanding the memorial to pay tribute to the men and women of law enforcement who have made ultimate sacrifice.

The plaque mounting stanchions were fabricated out of 11 and 16 gauge stainless steel, fully welded to be weather tight, polished, and ground smooth. The surfaces of the mounts were polished to a 120 grit orbital finish. We completed the install of the additional plaques in the fall of 2025. The ceremony for the expanded memorial was held in the rain on May 6th.

It was an honor for us as a company to place a part in building the memorial: a dedicated space where survivors of the fallen, fellow law enforcement officers, and members of the broader community can gather in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We field measured, provided Shop Drawings, fabricated, and installed (2) stainless steel exhaust runs for a pharmaceutical customer. The duct was fabricated from 4"OD X .065"W stainless steel Type 304 with #4 finish tubing. The drop exhaust runs were joined with sanitary fl**ges, gaskets, and clamps. Each run terminated with a stainless steel back draft damper to prevent back flow from one piece of equipment to another.

Our Sketching team worked with our customer in utility services on the design of these Unit Transformer Relay Cabinets. The cabinet houses protection, control, and monitoring devices at an electrical substation. These custom cabinets were fully welded out of 5052 aluminum. The cabinets feature:
- Vents for airflow
- Interior document holder
- An interior secondary door with removable modular panels for the Feeder Protection Relay and Control Switches

When a space has unique site constraints with irregular layouts or irregular relay schemes, or the transformer has ratings outside typical catalog ranges, custom fabrication is best, and our Sketching team is experienced in provided unique solutions to your substation.

Movember is here again! As a Company, we participate in Movember annually to focus on the importance of men's health. Movember is the global campaign raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health in men. (More about our Company's involvement with Movember is on our website: https://www.menold.com/movember

This year we are focusing on the invisible hazards of mental health in the construction workplace. Physical hazards in construction get most of the attention; like OSHA's "Fatal Four": working from heights, electrocution, and getting struck or caught between objects. So we wanted to draw attention to the invisible hazards: how mental stress has direct implications for performing tasks safely.

The stresses of life can build to a point that it undermines our attention, slows our reaction time, and compromises decision making. A stressed worker may miss a physical hazard simply because their mind is preoccupied. Long term stress can manifest in physical symptoms like headaches, poor sleep, and muscle tension.

Layering mental stresses on top of the physical hazards of our workplace increases the likelihood of an injury or accident. So what do we do about it? As a Company, we educate ourselves on the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, the risks of self-medicating with drugs and alcohol, and the resources available through health insurance and employee assistance programs. We encourage our crews to look out for changes in behavior—withdrawal, mood swings, or performance changes—and to check in with one another if someone seems they may be struggling. We also work to have our own Mental Health Champions from our crews at our job sites.

Participating in Movember and taking this month to focus on mental health helps us work towards creating an environment where mental health is jobsite safety. Just as we don’t let a coworker go without PPE, we shouldn’t let anyone face emotional struggles alone. We seek to create a culture that is as strong mentally as it is physically.

We provided Shop Drawings, fabricated, and delivered twenty-five (25) custom column enclosures for a manufacturer in the medical field. The columns measured approximately 12”x12”x132” high with a horizontal seam at 114". The enclosures were fabricated out of 16 Gauge Type 304 stainless steel with a #4 finish. The seams were knuckle joints that were stitch welded on the inside and tint removed. Outlet boxes were welded to the inside of the cover panels and bottom of the base. The base also had mounting holes on the bottom fl**ge for installation.
