Byrd Tool is a manufacturer of tooling for the wood working industry. We are the proud home of the SHELIX (R). The SHELIX is a replacement cutterhead for Planers, Jointers, and Moulders used in the woodworking world. We also offer a wide variety of other wood working tooling. We keep getting questions about this insert on the end of our jointers. This is machines correctly. We machined this knife seat to allow our standard KN400 to rabbet. This was a very nice improvement that allows us to use our standard KN400 knife instead of grinding a custom knife like we did in the past.

We’ve got some big cutterheads going out today. One customer sent us their old straight blade cutter head to be sure we got them the correct Shelix for their retrofit, they sent it in a custom box so we can ship both heads back to them.
