Mark Burton We're (they're) trenching for new electric service at the house. (The mini hoe driver explained the importance of the bow.) Currently there are overhead power lines right where I'd like to put a building. Second pic shows a layer of bricks deep in the driveway. These are from the 1958 demolition of the original house across the drive from the existing one.
Most of the bricks are about 11" deep... that's where the driveway surface was at the time. Several times in my memory Dad had 100 tons of gravel put down, 2 or 3" thick each time. I've done it once (twice?). Total 6 or 700 ton in my memory. Some of the layers are obvious. Also, veins of iron rust. In the 70s and 80s, Brownie Tool Works machined a lot of cast iron and we'd fill pot holes with the chip dust. Loaded semis have run this driveway since 1953, so there's a fair bit of compaction too (the mini hoe driver can attest).
Modern archeology.

October 2006 Apparently the 6th unit we machined ready for delivery. Thanks to Vince Bees for the pic. His father, Ed designed this dynamometer cradle at Overly Hautz Co in Lebanon for Caterpillar. As best I can remember, the bottom plate was 75" x 60", 3" thick, assembly as shown, about 6800 lbs. Poor choice of model included for scale. Mark Burton

Mark Burton 30 years ago today I laced up my work boots to join Dad on his big adventure. No one is more surprised than me at what the shop has become. Next year promises the biggest changes yet as we expect to triple our floor space and launch a product of our own. We'll know more, of course, a year from now.

A documenting photo of the Burtons (Nick, Connie, Mark & Zack) and the Royce Machine fleet. Today, we sold the Ranger that Dad bought for himself. Last week while him-hawing around, whether to buy or not buy the Maverick, son Zack lit me up with, "Same thing you told your Dad before he bought the Ranger, it's probably the last truck you'll buy. Go get what you want." (Ouch) The HHR is on the F-550, just to squeeze it all in. And, well, we could.
