The investigation is ongoing though all agree it was human-caused. Our hearts ache for the loss of lives, homes and sense of safety.
What steps can we take to minimize the spread of an accidental fire? A water hose isn't always adequate. Let's say one is out mowing grass, then a spark ignites...or grilling and a grease fire engulfs the grill...it only takes a small incident in these conditions for a wildfire to escalate.
Water will only exacerbate a grease or fuel fire. Fire extinguishers are portable and direct. Fire blankets can help suffocate a small fire. The best prevention is adhering to burn bans and being thoughtful in one's actions; not running a vehicle while parked on dry grass, extinguishing ci******es responsibly and completely shutting off air to charcoal grills.

They're a great addition to the fire extinguishers and smoke/CO2 alarms. I want to encourage everyone to keep at least one extinguisher if not more on hand... kitchen, garage, barn...keep your alarms up to date. If you have a second story get a drop ladder in case lower exits are blocked.
