From Kaipaki Rd on the outskirts of Cambridge, in the Waikato, the only sign of Shaw’s Quarry is the sign at the gate and the yellow Loadscan volume scanner perched at the end of the driveway.

Operations Manager Dave Marinkovich explains how the 15-year quarry project benefits from Loadscan’s technology. The block-mounted LVS unit is conveniently situated for trucks leaving the site with sand, as well as those entering with clean fill.

“Essentially we’ve got two diggers with two operators, and the Loadscan really simplified our operation,” he says. “It’s nice and easy to use. The truck drivers are all familiar with it, and it also helps in the background with all of our invoicing and reconciliation with looking at our volumes and sticking to the volumes we’re allowed, and also forecasting across the year to make sure we don’t go over those volumes.”

The full case study explains how the cloud-based MyScanner portal has simplified Shaw’s reporting and invoicing, adding extra efficiency to the overall operation.

In industries where accuracy and reality can’t afford to be compromised, LiDAR-based volume scanning still remains the benchmark, despite bold claims about stereo 3D cameras being the “future” of truck load measurement.

The idea of AI algorithms paired with low-cost cameras sounds enticing but, with more 20 years of proven performance in quarries, mines, and civil operations worldwide, Loadscan’s dual 2D LiDAR technology continues to set the global standard for volumetric load measurement.

Fitting trucks with RFID tags can significantly improve operational efficiency by automating the identification and data-logging process.

When the truck drives under the scanner, data is instantly sent to the MyScanner secure cloud portal, recording all the truck’s details and the 3D load profile. The entire process is done without the truck driver needing to step outside of the cab.

Loadscan technology is designed to operate 24 hours a day, including at night. The system utilizes LiDAR (light detection and ranging) laser technology to create 3D load profiles, so it does not rely on ambient light to function.

Because the data is captured automatically and saved to the Cloud, staff can access load information in real time from a remote office via MyScanner, eliminating the need for personnel to be physically present at the scan head during night shifts.

MyScanner Alerts provides automated, scheduled reporting directly from the MyScanner Cloud Service, ensuring your team receives the information they need without manual effort.
Alerts can be tailored to your operation, including filtering
for specific conditions such as flagged scans, underloaded
scans, or any other criteria you choose to monitor.

- Set up alerts that trigger daily, weekly, or on a custom schedule, with exact timing right down to the minute.

- Reports are sent as Excel spreadsheets directly to designated recipient groups. No manual steps required

- Reusable Alerting Groups mean the same distribution list can power multiple alerts across different reports and devices.

Replace subjective estimates and inaccurate weight-based measurements with Loadscan’s ±1% trade-certified volumetric scanning technology. Relying on traditional methods often results in significant financial leakages due to underloading, water weight, and carryback.

By measuring actual loose volume, you ensure that you only pay for exactly what you receive.

Loadscan systems are designed to scan a vast range of loose bulk materials across the mining, civil construction, quarrying, bark and mulch industries. Because the technology utilizes non-contact laser scanning (LiDAR), it measures the physical volume of the material rather than its weight, making it effective for almost any particulate material that can be hauled in an open-bodied bin or moved on a conveyor belt.

A key advantage of scanning these materials is that the laser measurement is unaffected by variables such as moisture content, giving a true and accurate result.
