✨We have had an awesome intern at Ericson Land Surveying LLC this summer! Alexis came to us as a student who studies Civil Engineering at UW-Platteville. She wanted to learn more about land surveying after taking coursework on it last year. Thank you Alexis for your contributions this summer and good luck as you start another year of college! ✨

We took an opportunity to explore Homestead National Monument in Beatrice, NE with our family this summer. We really enjoyed their land surveying exhibits and their not-so junior ranger program that included activities regarding the Public Land Survey System and how land was divided out. The monument is located at the very first homestead created with the Homestead Act of 1862. Before the Homestead act, surveyors relied on the 1785 land ordinance act to form townships, sections and 160 acre homesteads that could then be claimed through the Government Land Office once the Homestead Act was enacted.
