Think you've got an 8-foot pallet rack beam? 🤔 Not so fast.

One of the most common things we hear is, "Yeah, it's an 8-footer."

But in the warehouse world, close isn't good enough.

A few inches can make the difference between buying the right racking... or ending up with a very expensive headache.

Here's the trick: we always measure from the inside of one upright to the inside of the other.

That's the industry standard. In this case, what looked like a standard 8-foot beam actually measures 100 inches—not a size you see every day, but a great option for many two-pallet storage applications.

It's a simple measurement that can save you time, money, and plenty of frustration.

And trust me, measuring twice is a lot cheaper than explaining to your boss why the new rack doesn't fit. 😄

Here's something you don't come across very often.

Walking through this warehouse, we found 25-foot-tall, 32-inch-deep uprights matched with 108-inch heavy-duty beams and 52-inch wire decks.

With 4-inch columns, this system was clearly designed to handle demanding warehouse operations.

One thing that caught my eye was the Cogan upright protection. Great product, built in Canada, and a smart investment.

When a warehouse protects its racking, chances are they've taken care of the entire system too.

Warehouse people get excited about finding quality steel... everyone else just wonders why we're smiling at pallet racks. 😄

The base plate (foot plate).

It may not look exciting (it's definitely not winning any beauty contests 😄), but when you're planning a warehouse installation—especially with taller pallet rack systems—the size of the base plate becomes an important part of the engineering calculations.

Many municipalities and townships require engineered drawings before approving warehouse racking installations.

That means details like the base plate dimensions matter more than most people realize.
