What does it take to build a home for one of the world's most loved bakery brands? We got to find out.

Coastal Steel Structures built the new Foods manufacturing and distribution facility, and we loved every minute of learning what their team needed from a building like this.

Here's how it came together: 160,000 square feet, a 205 x 780 footprint, and a 42 foot eave height. It's Bauducco's largest manufacturing facility in the United States, and it brings their full wafer lineup under a Made in USA label for the first time.

Ask anyone in this business what happens when a steel package sits for years. They will tell you somebody pays for it.

That was the setup here. Permitting ran long on a 54,720 square foot industrial building, and the steel was already ordered. Waiting meant re-pricing into a rising market. So it sat instead. The site was tight, construction never stopped, and the package had to keep moving around the job.

Then it went up. Same footprint. Same price we quoted on day one. No change order, no redraw. Every frame was pressure washed, sand blasted, and recoated with a marine grade coating first, because three South Florida summers leave a mark.

It also happens to be one of the better looking industrial buildings we have delivered.

A hangar is just a box until you try to get the aircraft into it.

Eave height, door opening, clear span. Those three decide whether the building actually works. Get one wrong and you find out on delivery day.

For a private owner in Sparta, Kentucky, we spec'd 100x100 at 18 feet of eave. Roughly 10,000 square feet. I-Beam frame, clear span across the full width, so no column ever sits between the plane and the door.

Steel carries Kentucky snow load and summer heat, and it does not burn.

Room to add on later was designed in from the start, because what you fly changes.

In December 2017, a fire took nearly everything from Little Ponderosa Zoo and Rescue. Eight months later, they reopened their doors.

We were proud to build the structure at the heart of that comeback. A 5,600 square foot I-Beam building in Clinton, Tennessee. A durable home for the animals and the people who care for them.
Most of us here are proud pet parents. So a project like this one hits close to home.

Steel gives you something solid to rebuild around. The rest is heart.
