Pitman Engineering had a great time at Rural Counties Days this year. It is a great event where we get to see many of our county representatives, state legislators, among many others.

It was great news hearing Senator Corey Simon's update on the progress the Renaissance Bill is making through the legislative process and ought to be a great resource for our rural counties moving forward.

We highly recommend this event for any rural county as well as any consultant who does work with or desired to do work with rural counties. Always a great networking event where you can get in-person updates on what the current state legislature is up to from your very own state representatives. We can't wait until next year!

SRWMD RULE CHANGE:

Below is the first page of a letter we sent to SRWMD in 2022 requesting that their rules be amended to better match all other districts across Florida. Thankfully, as of July 2023, SRWMD accepted and implemented a few of the recommended changes.

Most notable change: critical storm event from the 100 year-10 day storm to the 100 year-24hour storm.

What does this mean? Ponds that have previously been designed to hold the 100 year-10 day storm event can now hold and treat more impervious for the same site, or ponds currently being designed can be reduced in size.

Won't this create issues? No, as a matter of fact, FEMA flood maps are based on the 100 year-24 hour storm. So this change, pending certain outside circumstances, should have no effect on existing flood plains.

We are thankful for SRWMD's willingness to hear us out on this issue, and have hopes that we can continue to work together to make sure the rules stay reasonable yet effective for all.

Due to volume of requests, as well as self-need, Pitman Engineering has begun the process of starting a surveying department.

If you are an experienced Professional Land Surveyor, we would love to have you send us your resume. Some of the preferred qualities we are looking for:

* Ambitious Self-Starter

* Experience in Land and Roadway Surveys

* Experience in Construction Layout

* State of Florida Experience

* Previous Supervisory or Project Management Role Experience
