It’s our birthday! So what is Peridian working on going into the next 10 years? We’re currently a part of the team working on the new Lake Charles Public Works Facility, designed by Architect David Brossett. Phase One, which is currently under construction, includes site work and the construction of a new Public Works Administration Office with parking lots on the north and south sides of the facility. Phase Two will include the relocation of the remaining City Public Works services. Peridian is providing civil and structural engineering services on this project, including structural calculations, foundation design, civil and structural specifications, roadway and parking design, underground drainage, lateral reroute, and stormwater retention.

Another project that we are excited to be a part of right now is the new Cougar Stadium. The upgrades to the stadium include new turf, a new track, updates to the bathrooms, concessions, ticket booths, new bleachers and a new lighting system. Working with Vincent, Shows, Gautreaux Architects, Peridian is providing engineering and design for the press box support structure and framing, wall framing and foundations, civil paving and drainage, and associated specifications.

Although the projects we’ve highlighted in the past few days have all been commercial in nature, Peridian actually does a mix of commercial and industrial work. In our ten years of business, we have worked on 638 projects, almost 200 of which were industrial. We have served industrial clients from Houston to Baton Rouge, and even all the way down in New Orleans. Although we can’t share details of specific industrial projects because of client confidentiality, some of the many services we perform for our industrial clients include heavy civil and structural applications such as: structure and foundation design; load ratings; structural inspections and analysis; structural repair and retrofit design; feasibility studies and front end engineering; pipe racks and miscellaneous supports; custom shoring design and clash detection; blast-resistant design and retrofit; bridge inspection, analysis, and design; drainage impact analysis and design; storm water detention; run off management planning; roadway design; site development and planning; hydraulic studies and design; flood mitigation; water distribution; sewer collection/disposal; and containment.

2021 proved to be a busy year for Peridian. Two of our main projects during that time period were the new DeRidder Elementary School and the Power Centre Parkway Sidewalks in Lake Charles. Champeaux, Evans, Hotard Architects designed the new 89,405 square foot campus that includes a gym/auditorium, expansive library, dedicated STEM lab, and a large playground with tiered seating capacity. Our team provided full civil and structural engineering consulting and design that included plans, sections, details, and construction administration for the framing and foundation, site development, runoff management, detention pond, retaining walls, and erosion control, as well as project specifications.
The Power Centre Parkway Sidewalk project connected 5th Avenue to Highway 14 and included a state-of-the-art crossing signal, allowing 5th Avenue residents to safely access shopping, schools, and recreation facilities. Peridian provided the design for the project, and coordinated with traffic engineers, contractors, and the City of Lake Charles through the bidding and construction process, ensuring that the project ran smoothly and was built to meet the needs of the community.

2020 brought the winds of change to our growing company. With the onset of the COVID pandemic, the McNeese SEED Center made the decision to shut its doors, sending us back to working from home. We were blessed to find a new home in a historic building in downtown Lake Charles, but our move was short-lived. Just a few short weeks later, Hurricane Laura blew through, bringing with it massive devastation. Our new office space was unusable like countless other properties in the area. In an effort to help our community, we began to add on residential inspection projects to our growing workload. We got so many calls every day that we had to bring another engineer on staff just to field calls from residents needing help. At the same time, one of our previous projects with Champeaux, Evans, Hotard Architects was being used in the recovery effort. A Grand Lake Elementary classroom building was one of the few structures left without major damage in Cameron Parish and thus was able to serve as a base of operations for the National Guard. It was a privilege for us to be able to serve our neighbors during one of the hardest times our community has faced, and a proud moment to know that a project that we were a part of was able to prove its strength.

At the beginning of 2019, we rebranded to become Peridian Engineering Services LLC. At the same time, the old Isle of Capri Casino and Hotel was being rebranded as Horseshoe Lake Charles. Our team worked with Marnell Architecture out of Las Vegas on this project. We provided plans for traffic and utilities, demolition, site development, runoff management, erosion control, drainage, as well as sanitary sewer and potable water. Our team consulted and coordinated with the owners, developers, and local municipalities to keep the civil portion of this project running smoothly.
