Shooting Investigation

On October 13, at 7:03 p.m., deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of the 200 block of Bass Cross Road in reference to a person in a car who was possibly shot.

When deputies arrived on scene along with Fire and EMS personnel, they found a male victim unresponsive and who had apparent gunshot wounds. Life saving measures immediately began and the victim was transported to Well Star West Georgia Medical Center were he later died from his injuries. The victim has been identified as Paul Smith, 16 years old, of LaGrange.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division determined that the shooting occurred at a home on Sims Road and that the victim was driven away from the scene by another individual who called 911.

The suspect, Hunter Smith, 21 years old, was arrested without incident at the Sims Road location just before 10:00 p.m. and transported to the Troup County Jail.

This is an active investigation, nothing further at this time.

Two months ago, Joseph was sleeping behind an art museum in downtown LaGrange.

Today, he has a full-time job, a driver’s license and a car!!

And it started with a chance encounter on an unbearably hot day.

Christopher Clow spotted Joseph in the courtyard behind the art museum, a place where he had been sleeping.

Christopher invited him inside 134 Main, a live music venue in LaGrange, to cool off and get something to eat.

That’s where Joseph met Seth Stricklin, the venue’s Food and Beverage Director.

Soon after, Joseph was working full time as a cook at 134 Main!

But Seth didn’t stop at offering him a job.

He spent time helping Joseph work toward some of the things that could give him more independence.

And this week, Joseph got his driver’s license and a car.

Christopher wrote in his post that the timing still gets him.

“30 seconds earlier or later and I would have never met him.”

There are a lot of people celebrating Seth and Christopher for opening a door for Joseph, and deservedly so.

But Joseph is the one who walked through it.

He took the job. He put in the work. And now, just two months after that meeting in a courtyard, his life looks very different.

Congratulations, Joseph!

There are a whole lot of people cheering for you. ❤️
