Many factors affect which platforms are shut in and which are evacuated. The activities are staged based on NHC and NOAA data on forecasted wind, waves, and currents. Operators have plans for each facility with timelines to reduce personnel, suspend non-essential work, stabilize the process, and prepare for a shutdown and full evacuation. Factors that affect each facility include distance to shore, transportation options, facility design, and hurricane intensification.

Affected producing facilities shut down production and close surface and downhole barrier valves. Oil and gas volumes remaining on the facility are reduced to minimize potential environmental impact. Personnel are evacuated to shore.

Getting our offshore family home safely.

With Hurricane Isaias approaching, operators across the Gulf are working to evacuate personnel and shut in production ahead of the storm.

This is one of those times that reminds you what matters most. Production can be restarted, equipment can be repaired, but people come first.

Shoutout to everyone working offshore and behind the scenes to coordinate evacuations, shutdowns, logistics, and everything else that goes into getting our people home safely before the weather moves in.

At the National Ocean Industries Association Annual Meeting, we took a few minutes to do something important.

In partnership with redM, executives from across the offshore energy industry came together to record a human trafficking awareness video: because if you see something, say something.
