It’s not often one is blessed with a park bench in the shade on the beach. Even less so when it is conveniently located at the exit of our 640’ bore from Gulf Blvd to Isle of Palms in Treasure Island!

Pilot bore complete on the 2nd of our two bores in this beachfront town. The bore runs about beneath a sovereign canal and crosses two streets (1st St E and 112th Ave B)to exit in “Triangle Park” in the Isle of Palms neighborhood.

American Boring & Trenching, inc. And CFB Surveying, LLC providing the muscle to get this one done. This has been 9 years in the making!

The nearby Chicken Church (Church By The Sea) has blessed our project on 116th Avenue and today we are pulling back 630ft of double 8in conduits beneath a Boca Ciega Bay canal!

This project and the one on 112th adjacent to it (another 680ft, starts next week) have been in the works for nine years and it has taken about two weeks on site to get to this point.

We specialize in working with our partners in Pinellas County’s beachfront communities and want to give a shout out to our amazing parter American Boring & Trenching, inc. and the successful coordination we’ve had with the City of Treasure Island…

As we enter fall after the equinox yesterday, let’s take a moment and reflect, why don’t we?

Well MacDriller’s social media presence took a break since January, you could say it was due to politics, lack of talent, or forgetfulness (we have been around for 20 years after all)!

It’s much simpler and better than that - we’ve been busy. From consulting on bore designs to design-builds, to bids, to responding to Statement of Qualification requests, 2025 has been a stellar year!

Let us catch you up on what we’ve done so far:

1) Bid on 8 bores and were awarded 3 with another 1 pending.

2) Partnered CFB Surveying, LLC to investigate and create environmental permit exhibits for 3 subaqueous directional bores beneath the Withlacoochee River (Citrus Co FL), the Anclote River, and Brooker Creek (both in Pinellas Co FL).

3) Finalized the permit drawings started 9 years ago (!) on Treasure Island (Pinellas Co FL) and 4 years ago for 2 bores on the Pithlachascotee River (Pasco Co FL) and another 5 year old vision of a crossing of the Homosassa River.

4) Assisted the consulting engineer for a Special Water District with a bore design that would allow the District to coincide in the same horizontal footprint as the power company’s bore.

5) Together with our partner American Boring & Trenching, Inc. we’ve completed 4 subaqueous directional bores for the regional power utility! All were shorter than 1000ft and each installed 1-3 HDPE conduits ranging from 6in to 8in, with 1 conduit per 3-phase feeder. 1 was within feet of a 42in HDPE force main on a 30-degree curve across a canal and each had significant challenges unique to their locations.

6) Currently drilling 2 crossings on Treasure Island, then we head to Homosassa, and hopes that we are awarded that last pending bid selection. This would equate to 8 subaqueous bores by the end of October, the most in any of the past 20 years for MacDriller, Inc.!

Stay tuned for more “boring” posts 😁

Soo back on the road again, this time in Seven Springs (Pasco Co) and our buddy Johnny from McKim & Creed stopped by! We are 480’ in for our 640’ bore of an 8” conduit for the local power company!

Thankfully the water is 10’ lower than it was 2 weeks ago after Hurricane Debby.

Partnering again with the most awesome folks from American Boring & Trenching, inc. as we have for nearly 15 years!

This one is a challenging 2 year old design 0.7’ off the R/W line that we assisted with across the Anclote River. To add to the challenges, just last week we discovered a fiber optic cable was bored in the same corridor 6 months ago!

5 years in the making, from walking the job with Art Gilmore in July 2019, to installation of three 8in HDPE conduits in July 2024, 745LF has been pulled beneath the Lake Tarpon Outfall Canal in Palm Harbor, FL (Pinellas County). The 6(!) traffic-rated pullboxes are also installed. Many thanks go out to the parties that made this happen, including all the folks at Duke Energy, Pinellas County RW & Public Works, and SWFWMD. Huge thanks go out to our close partners American Boring & Trenching, inc. and Clymer Farner Barley Surveying LLC. The project also recently endured Hurricane Debby which only delayed it one day.

It’s been a busy but light 2 years as MacDriller’s offices have moved from St Petersburg to Dunedin to Lady Lake - but we continue to serve Duke Energy and other clients with our subaqueous directional bore design-builds in coordination with our partners CFB Surveying, LLC, GeoPoint Surveying, and American Boring & Trenching, inc.!

Since 2022, MacDriller has only constructed 1 project (The Narrows Intracoastal Waterway at Indian Rocks Beach), but we’ve helped design 9 more crossings that await funding and/or permitting.

Coming up shortly will be a 775LF crossing of Tarpon Canal in Pinellas County consisting of three 8in conduits and 6 pullboxes. White-lining was performed yesterday, stay tuned!
