Project Spotlight: Thinking INSIDE the Box

When a large city water supply client needed to tap and linestop a 20" ductile iron water line operating at 100psi, they ran into a major roadblock: SPACE.

🛑 The Challenge
The customer needed to install a temporary linestop to cut in a new spool piece and construct a permanent 10" bypass. However, the existing vault only had room for one single fitting. Expanding the area meant costly, disruptive extra excavation.

💡 The C**T Solution
Instead of digging up more of the city, C**T engineered an all-in-one fix.
– Custom manufactured heavy-duty 20 x 12 x 20 tapping/linestop fitting
– Accommodated both the 10" side discharge bypass and the 12" top side for the linestop machine
– Utilized our MOD760 tapping machine with 66" of bar travel to get the job done

📈 The Result
By leveraging versatile equipment and custom engineering, the system owner met every single project requirement without extra excavation or costly vault modifications. The project was completed on schedule and on budget.

How do you train world-class Hot Tap technicians to look at everyday tasks with a meticulous safety mindset? Start with a tasty lunchtime staple.

Josh Gallien, Director of HSEQ for C**t®, recently led an interactive training session at our headquarters in Pasadena, Texas. He broke down the core concepts of conducting a Job Safety Analysis (JSA), emphasizing how breaking down any task step-by-step helps identify potential hazards before they happen.

The Assignment: Write a comprehensive JSA on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

This simple exercise highlights how even the most routine procedures require careful planning, hazard awareness, and clear communication. From sharp butter knives to potential allergen cross-contamination, the team was reminded that C**t’s safety culture applies to EVERY job, big or small.
