Petition: Demand a better approach to Erosion Control Projects 3B and 4

The Army Corps of Engineers is about to undertake a project on the American River Parkway in Sacramento that will remove over 600 trees and several miles of riparian woodland, resulting in a significant loss of recreational river access and key wildlife habitat. Although the proposed project is for flood control, there has not historically been flooding in this area and there are alternatives available that would preserve the natural environment and maintain flood control. However, no other alternatives have been evaluated.

The link below allows interested parties to get more information about the project and electronically sign a petition to evaluate other alternatives to removing trees on the American River for flood control in Sacramento. If anyone has questions on the project they can contact Pete Spaulding at 916-947-8018, or [email protected] or Nancy Kniskern at 916-718-1767, or [email protected]

Insist that the US Army Corps of Engineers work with local, state and federal officials and the public, to reassess these proposals and methods, and achieve a balance for flood protection that does not destroy hundreds of trees, and degrade the wild and scenic river for generations.
