Job Summary
The position is responsible for designing automated equipment ranging from simple workstations, tooling and fixtures to large, complex automated systems. The candidate will also interface with customers and vendors, and manage projects.
Job Responsibilities
• Design automated machines, sub-assemblies and/or individual parts utilizing CAD software and pre-established rough concepts. This includes the selection of materials and commercial items.
• Interface with commercial component suppliers to verify product features, functionality, cost and availability.
• Assist with developing concepts for automated equipment projects.
• Develop quotations for new automation proposals on an as-needed basis.
• Track, Manage and provide input, direction and feedback for specific projects.
• Stay abreast of automation industry trends relative to modern machine design techniques, commercial items and new hardware/software.
Direction Received
• This position will receive general direction from a Senior Mechanical Designer but, for the most part, work independently and only require assistance in special circumstances.
Supervision of Others
• This position does not have any direct reports however, does require that the individual provide general direction (for specific projects) to others.
Knowledge/Experience Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
• 2-year degree in Engineering (that includes formal drafting/design training), from a recognized institution is required.
• 3+ years of Computer Automated Drafting (CAD) experience is required, with a minimum of 3 years of 3-D experience, preferably utilizing AutoDesk Inventor.
• 3+ years of equipment design experience is required, preferably designing custom equipment used for the assembly of small parts.
• Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office products, especially Word, Excel and MS Outlook.
Preferred:
• Experience working for a machine designer/builder is a strong plus.
Personality/Social Skills
• A strong work ethic, spirit of cooperation and high moral and ethical standards are required.
• Good communication skills (written and verbal) are required.
• Leadership skills and the ability to direct others effectively to lead projects is required.
• Ability to work on a team.
Working Conditions
• Office with frequent exposure to Omnitech’s production floor and machine shop.
• Occasional customer visits for installations, troubleshooting, equipment upgrades and sales presentations.
Physical Demands
• None.
Travel Requirements
• Local travel – Occasional weekday trips to customers within driving distance are required. These trips most often do not include overnight stays.
• Out of town travel – Out of town trips with overnight stays are infrequent but occasionally required. Most trips occur during the Monday – Friday work week.
