We don't like to play favorites, but Tommy is one of our favorite people over at Sevier County Choppers. A wealth of aviation knowledge and an all-around nice guy, Tommy is just one of the reasons we trust everyone at SCC!

🚁 Meet Tommy Garst 🚁

Tommy has been a Mechanic at Sevier County Choppers for 15 years. Aviation runs in the family — his dad, Jim Garst and brother, both with aviation backgrounds, inspired him to pursue the same path. He holds his A&P/IA and Private Pilot certifications. For Tommy, the most interesting projects are any that involve repairs or “outside-the-box” thinking. His favorite part of the job? “Working with younger apprentices and teaching them.” Most days you’ll find Tommy handling component maintenance tasks, but he also jumps in wherever he’s needed in the shop or to support the Director of Maintenance. One task he especially enjoys is component maintenance and repairs. His favorite tool in the shop is the ACES track and balance equipment — which provides great support and makes his job easier.
One memorable milestone for Tommy was earning his Private Pilot certificate and seeing how proud his dad was. Along with helicopters, Tommy also runs his own arcade and vending business. Outside of work, he enjoys motorcycles and gambling. His advice for apprentices: “Forget about everything you think you know. Ask lots of questions and learn with an open mind.” He also emphasizes the importance of recurrent training and says: “Never get complacent in your work and recurrent training is key.”

On this day in 1776, a declaration was made not just of independence, but of the unalienable rights every human being is born with: Life. Liberty. The pursuit of Happiness. We are deeply grateful for the patriotic men and women who have fought and sacrificed so that we can enjoy the freedoms and privileges America holds today. This Independence Day, may we celebrate not just freedom, but the responsibility that comes with it.

This Memorial Day, we’re thankful for those who gave their lives while serving. And we’re thinking of those who have lost someone they love. Thank you for your sacrifice.
