How to Prevent Frozen Water Pipes

As cold weather approaches, take steps to protect your pipes and prevent freezing.

1. Know Your Water Shutoff
Ensure everyone in your household knows the location of the main water shutoff valve. Keep the area around it free from debris and obstacles for easy access.

2. Insulate Exposed Pipes
Cover pipes in unheated or drafty areas, such as attics, basements, or garages, with proper insulation.

3. Winterize Outdoor Faucets
Turn off outdoor faucets, disconnect hoses, and wrap faucets with towels or a Styrofoam cover. Close any vents leading under the house to block cold air.

4. Protect Indoor Pipes
Leave cabinet doors open under kitchen and bathroom sinks to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes.

5. Drip Faucets Only if Necessary
If freezing is still a concern after taking these precautions, let one cold water faucet furthest from your main shutoff valve drip slowly.

Plan ahead to ensure your pipes stay safe during freezing temperatures!

Our Story

The company began in the trunk of the founder’s, John MacDonald, car in 1949 and has grown to 11 locations. From 1949 to today, our success is tied directly to the profitable growth and satisfaction of our customers. Our priority is always to enable customers’ growth and success by providing high quality products, relentless integrity, and superior service. This rich history and a family atmosphere has allowed Royal Brass and Hose to be what it is today.

In 2018, the company transformed to an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership plan). People are the core of the business and it is extremely important to reward them for their passion, loyalty, and most importantly, their customer-first attitude. Our already strong culture is ready to go to the next level by instilling an ownership mentality that connects employees’ everyday work to a higher purpose.
