We're on the road in Tennessee! Our Chris Schombert is traveling with Christian Webster from Automation Technology Sales this week visiting customers and talking through automation applications.

Customer visits are a valuable opportunity to connect in person, learn more about the applications manufacturers are working through, and spend time in the field with the sales partners who help us support customers in their regions.

The customer's existing downstream equipment helped determine exactly how this feeding system needed to be configured.

Three downstream lines each required correctly oriented plastic housings at 20 parts per minute (PPM). Our team engineered a vibratory feeder bowl with a triple steel track inline to provide that presentation.

The housings move through several orientation and selection steps before reaching the inline. From there, each lane delivers the parts in the required orientation and at the required rate for the equipment that comes next.

Three lanes at 20 PPM each provide a combined feed rate of 60 PPM.

Food safety starts with decisions made long before equipment reaches the production floor.

When we're designing automation for a food processing application, we're thinking about more than how the product needs to move.

How will the equipment be cleaned? Where could product or residue collect? What materials are appropriate for the processing environment? Can areas of the system be easily accessed for sanitation and maintenance?

Those questions can influence how a feeding or conveying system is designed from the beginning.

This National Food Safety Month, we're highlighting the role thoughtful equipment design can play in supporting cleanability, sanitation, and food safety.

What does it take to consistently orient bakery products before packaging?

We'll be demonstrating one approach at PACK EXPO International using donuts and our Ultimate Orienting Conveyor System.

The system singulates and mechanically orients each product before vision provides a final select. Vision can identify whether a donut is right side up or upside down and check defined characteristics such as missing icing or the wrong icing color. Products that don't meet the established criteria can then be rejected before moving downstream.

Donuts are what you'll see running at the show, but they're only one example. This type of system can be engineered for a range of food, bakery, and protein products that require controlled orientation and presentation before packaging.

We're taking a closer look at the process in our latest Getting Oriented blog.

From randomly presented parts to a consistent teeth-side-up orientation.

This vibratory feeder bowl was engineered to feed cable connector housings at the customer-requested rate of 14 parts per minute.

Custom tooling progressively orients the housings as they travel through the bowl, with multiple selection stages allowing correctly oriented parts to continue toward the discharge.

Take a look at the process from bulk feeding through final presentation.

What makes an automation system valuable over the long term?

It goes beyond how the equipment performs when it's first installed.

Quality design and components matter, but so do flexibility, maintainability, and the support available throughout the life of the system. Equipment may need to accommodate new products, changeovers, evolving production requirements, replacement parts, upgrades, and changing plant layouts over time.

Those are all considerations that can influence the lifetime value of an automation investment.

Today we're celebrating some very important members of the extended Hoosier Feeder family. ๐Ÿถ

In honor of International Dog Day, our team shared photos of the dogs waiting for them at home each day. There were too many good ones not to share!

Swipe through to meet them, and feel free to add a photo of your own four-legged family member in the comments.

We had a lot to celebrate with the Shibuya Hoppmann team! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ•

Hoosier Feeder has been named Shibuya Hoppmann Corporation's 2026 Dealer of the Year, marking the 10th time we've received this recognition during our partnership.

Their team joined us to present the award and treated our entire crew to a pizza lunch to celebrate the milestone together.

We're grateful for a partnership that has grown over the years and for the people on both teams who continue to make it successful. And, of course, thank you to everyone at Hoosier Feeder whose hard work helped bring home number 10!

Thank you, Shibuya Hoppmann, for the recognition, the lunch, and a great afternoon celebrating together.

This application required RH bodies to be consistently oriented and presented across two lanes at a combined rate of 40 parts per minute.

Our team engineered an 18" vibratory feeder bowl with custom tooling that progressively rotates the parts into position before final selection and confinement.

From there, the parts discharge onto a dual steel-track inline at 20 parts per minute per lane, providing the presentation required by the customer's downstream equipment.

Take a look at the complete orientation process in action.

Choosing the right feeding solution starts well before we decide what the equipment will look like.

Our engineers first need to understand the part, production requirements, and how the downstream process needs to receive it. Feed rate, orientation, changeover requirements, part variations, spacing, and timing can all influence the approach.

Understanding those details helps us engineer a system around the application and the role it needs to play in the larger automation process.

Swipe through for a look at some of the questions that help guide that process.
