Ever think about where all the sand and dirt goes that gets washed down your drain?
If you're on city sewer, the first stop at the wastewater plant is usually the grit tank. It's a big tank built to slow the water down, kind of like a lazy spot in a river, so the heavy stuff like sand, pebbles, shells and coffee grounds sinks to the bottom while everything else keeps moving.
That grit gets sucked out and hauled off before it can chew up the pumps and equipment further down the line.
If your home is on a septic system, though, there's not typically a grit tank to catch it, so do your best to keep sand out of your drains entirely. It settles in the tank and takes up space, which means more frequent pumping.
It is an important job to keep things flowing and we are happy to do it!
