In her Kintsu-Bee series, artist Ava Roth collaborates with live bees to reconstruct broken ceramics, guiding the insects to fill fissures and build missing components out of organic honeycomb. Inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, the resulting sculptures highlight the history of the breakage while reflecting on the earth's capacity for restoration and repair.

As bees build their hives, ceramics are mended in the spirit of the time-honored Japanese craft tradition of kintsugi.
