Today was a special day for Wilburn Medical Supply!

In celebration of 10 years since Rick Wilburn’s life was saved from cardiac arrest, we had the privilege of training 14 team members at Triad Adult & Pediatric Medicine, Inc. on their new AED defibrillator.

At Wilburn, we believe deeply in the power of being rescue ready. One of the reasons we exist is to help save lives, so it was an absolute joy to partner with Joey Hundley to equip this team with the knowledge and confidence to respond when every second matters.

Thank you, TAPM, for prioritizing the safety of your patients, team, and community!

If your organization needs an AED, replacement equipment, or team training, we'd love to help you get rescue ready.

CHC Hero Award β€” 2026 Winner Announcement

We're so glad to finally share this. Meet our 2026 CHC Hero Award winners! πŸ†

**John Illsley, PA-C**, of Person Family Medical Center, is honored for his compassionate, patient-centered care and his commitment to educating and empowering patients, including through the diabetes education classes he leads. A trusted mentor and teammate, John lives out the community health mission of quality care for all, regardless of ability to pay, making a lasting difference in the lives of his patients and their families.

**Dr. Teresa Bratton, MD**, has spent more than 40 years caring for children with asthma and allergies in the Triad, beginning as unpaid volunteer work at a community clinic in 1984 and continuing through her career at Guilford Child Health and Triad Adult & Pediatric Medicine. As she retires, she's remembered for combining clinical expertise with a deep commitment to serving uninsured and Medicaid families who might otherwise struggle to access specialty care.

Congratulations to both of you. We'll be reaching out directly to coordinate your award and gift card.

We also want to recognize every colleague who was nominated this year:

- **Evie Nicklas** – Director of Integrated Health, MedNorth Health Center
- **Lorinnsa Bridges-Kee** – Chief Human Resources Officer, Piedmont Health Services
- **Gary Collins** – Chief Operating Officer, Piedmont Health Services
- **Olawale "Wale"** – the sole psychiatric mental health practitioner at Bee Busy Wellness Center

Each story we received was a reminder of what makes community health centers so special: people who show up, again and again, for their patients and their communities. Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate a hero, and to every nominee doing that work every day.

Did you know Community Health Centers are the largest provider of primary care in the country, serving 52 million patients?

CHCs also manage serious chronic conditions. In 2024 alone, they treated 3.5 million patients with diabetes, 6.2 million with hypertension, and 10 million with obesity. Left unmanaged, those conditions drive some of the highest costs and worst outcomes in healthcare.

Care doesn't stop at the exam room, either. Many CHCs offer enabling services like diet and nutrition counseling, cooking and exercise classes, education and peer support for new mothers, and career counseling. It's whole person care that changes outcomes long term.

That's why community health centers made a promise a long time ago: everyone gets seen, regardless of ability to pay. It's a mission that's easy to get behind, and it's why we built Wilburn Medical Supply to be the kind of partner that never adds friction to that work. Reliable stock, fast shipping, and real people who pick up the phone when something's urgent.

Learn more about the impact of Community Health Centers and find local events at healthcenterweek.org.

πŸ† Reminder: Nominations for our CHC Hero Award are open through Sunday, August 8th! Recognize a colleague going above and beyond. They'll receive a $100 Amazon gift card, an award honoring their work, and their story shared on social media.

This week is National Health Center Week! We're celebrating community health centers across the country, and the people who show up every day to make quality care accessible to everyone, no matter their ability to pay, from August 2 through 8.

It started with a handful of clinics. Today, community health centers serve 52 million patients. That's 1 in 7 Americans, and 1 in 3 people in rural areas, cared for across more than 17,000 locations nationwide by 330,000 staff who show up for their communities every day. Time and again, CHCs have proven themselves to be frontline responders to America's greatest public health challenges, emergencies, and natural disasters.

At Wilburn Medical Supply, we're proud to celebrate this week because our mission and yours have always pointed the same direction: making sure care reaches the people who need it most. Same day shipping on the supplies you can't run out of. Real people on the phone who actually know your account. We show up as your supply partner because we care about the outcomes you're fighting for.

We also wanted to take a moment to share photos from the Grand Opening Celebration for our dear friends at United Health Centers. We were honored to be part of their joyous event celebrating their new location at 3051 Kernersville Rd.

πŸ† Reminder: Nominations are open for our CHC Hero Award! Tell us about a colleague who goes above and beyond. The winner receives a $100 Amazon gift card, an award honoring their work, and their story shared on social media for the community to celebrate. Takes less than 3 minutes to nominate. Submissions close Sunday, August 8th.

Every community health center runs on people who show up long after the job description ends. The front desk staff who remember every patient's name. The providers who stay late because someone needed to be seen today, not next week. The leaders who hold their teams together when everything else falls apart.

Last year, our CHC Hero Award had two winners, and their stories show exactly what we mean.

In the days after Hurricane Helene tore through Western North Carolina, LaCosta Tipton of Mountain Community Health Partnership led the effort to get their Burnsville clinic back up and running with no way to communicate and no idea what was happening across the region. She didn't stop until every one of their 150 staff members was accounted for and had their basic needs met.

At Appalachian Mountain Community Health Centers, CEO Dr. Shantelle Simpson jumped straight into action helping the people of Asheville in any way she could. She led her team through it all and slept on her office couch to make sure everyone was taken care of.

Two different roles, two different clinics, the same instinct: show up for your community no matter what. That's what a CHC Hero looks like.

⏰ Nominations for this year's CHC Hero Award are open through Sunday, August 8th. If someone on your team has shown that same kind of dedication, this is your chance to make sure they know it didn't go unnoticed.

Ten years ago, our founder Rick Wilburn's heart stopped for seven minutes at a local gym. He shouldn't be here. But an AED on the wall and a trained employee changed everything β€” and gave our family, our team, and our company ten more years with the man who started it all.

This year, to mark a decade of what Rick and his daughter Emily now call his "Bonus Days," Wilburn Medical Supply gave away 10 AEDs to 10 community health centers across North Carolina. Last month at the NCCHCA Annual Conference, we placed every single one of them.

Our winners:

β€’ United Health Centers
β€’ Agape Health Services
β€’ Kintegra Health
β€’ High Country Community Health
β€’ Commwell Health
β€’ Person Family Medical Center, Inc.
β€’ Mountain Community Health
β€’ Ocracoke Health Center, Inc.
β€’ Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine
β€’ NC Community Health Center Association

We asked Rick what these past ten years have meant to him. He put it simply:

"The last ten years have been the best years of my life. I'm not missing a thing β€” and I am so grateful for every single day. This won't be the last giveaway either. My plan is to be right here at 15 years, at 20 years, at every milestone worth celebrating β€” and when those days come, we'll be giving away more AEDs. Because someone out there deserves their own Bonus Days too."

β€” Rick Wilburn, Founder, Wilburn Medical Supply
That's the mission. That's why we do this work.

Today we take a moment to share this reflection from our CEO, Emily Wilburn Andrews, on the moment that changed her family's life forever:

Ten years ago, my father's heart stopped for seven minutes.

He was at the gym, on a treadmill, just living his best life. And then, without warning, he was gone. What brought him back was an AED on the wall and a gym employee who had completed her training that very morning.

My dad, Rick Wilburn, didn't just survive. He got what our family now calls his "Bonus Days" β€” ten years of life, love, and purpose he almost didn't get. Ten years of memories and moments I will always be grateful for.

To mark this milestone, we gave away 10 AEDs to 10 community health centers serving patients across North Carolina. Last month at the NCCHCA Annual Conference, we had the honor of placing those AEDs into the hands of the people doing that work every day.

Our 10 winners:

- United Health Centers
- Agape Health Services
- Kintegra Health
- High Country Community Health
- Commwell Health
- Person Family Medical Center, Inc.
- Mountain Community Health
- Ocracoke Health Center, Inc.
- Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine
- NC Community Health Center Association

Ten AEDs. Ten communities. One mission.

If my dad's story has taught us anything, it's this: the right equipment, in the right hands, at the right moment, changes everything.

With joy & gratitude,
Emily Wilburn Andrews
CEO, Wilburn Medical Supply
