5 inch, hand forged 5160 blade. Coppered 1018 guard and collar. Stabilized oak with rawhide wrap.

This is a recent period piece that I finished up just today. A lot of this was experimentation because I've never coppered a blade before, nor have I ever used rawhide to wrap a handle like this. Making this to fit a time period of the fur trade and Indian era had its bit of fun and moments of head scratching. Anyhow, as long as I don't get some stupid reply by the perspective recipient of this, this will be heading back to my hometown in Florida at the end of the week.

This gentleman always has wanted an Indian era nice from me, so probably now maybe 15 years later, here it is :-).

Just for clarification, this was not a knife order :-) lol. This was a special request an old family friend who really likes the mountain man era type stuff.

lol... Here's my make shift method of texturing... it worked in the end, but there wasn't much left of that Rasp.

Not for sale

So today I stepped back from knifemaking and into a time of craftsmanship and engendering. This is a drawing compass capable of a 12" circle. The compass was forged from 1/4"x 1" , I made the rivets, and screws. In total this was made from nothing. Super enjoyable experience having made something mechanical and from nothing.

This is something that will be appreciated, and will stand the test of time. The name will forever be seen and this compass will be used for who knows what future endeavors. It was a good day.
