During the Great Depression in 1924 two metal spinners, Otto Klemm and Jesse Bell decided to combine their talents and form their own metal spinning company. The company was started in the bottom of Otto’s house at 3810 Mrytle. After school and in her free time Otto’s daughter Elfriede, at only 6 years old, would cut blanks, drill holes in the metal spinnings and prepare wood to be used to anneal the spinnings. In 1927 with the need for more space they moved their location to a store front located at 1905 Indiana, as well as incorporating their name of United Metal Spinning Company. As business began to expand the need for more machinery and room was necessary and the two owners began to purchase adjoining properties.
Through the years the company has remained on the family. In 1937 Carl Brennaman began working for the company. In 1940 Carl and Elfriede got married. In 1978 they took over the Company. In 2004, their son Larry took over operations, later buying the shop with his wife Laura. In 2005, they relocated the shop to 813 Wi******er in the old Ford plant. The company remains in family hands to this day.
