⭐This Month in Humphrey Products History⭐

Now into the late 1920s, the General Gas Light Company is riding a wave of success with their lighting and heating products for homes and offices. The next innovation, marketed under their now famous brand, is another pioneering advancement in commercial heating technology known as the Humphrey Industrial Unit Heater.

By mounting the gas heating unit to the ceiling, businesses, showrooms, warehouses, groceries and retail stores could save valuable floor space. These units utilize built-in fans to distribute heated air downward efficiently. Another simple, yet practical, invention helps General Gas Light Company through the depression years and throughout the 1930s.

⭐This Month in Humphrey Products History⭐

In its first 25 years, the General Gas Light Company had grown into a multiple product heating and lighting manufacturer. This includes a novel extension of the elegant Radiantfire gas heater.
The Humphrey Rotisserie is introduced for homes and restaurants to slow roast chickens and meats. Moderately successful, the Rotisserie used the patented combustion burners of the Radiantfire to evenly barbecue food more efficiently than anything previously available.

By the late 1920's, the General Gas Light Company is grown into a leading manufacturer in the Kalamazoo community, employing more than 600 workers!

⭐This Month in Humphrey Products History⭐

By 1925, the General Gas Light Company was producing 150,000 Humphrey Radiantfire heaters a year, adding to the more than 700,000 already in the homes across North American and European residences. With many styles and sizes to suit every taste and budget, the Radiantfire’s elegant, on-demand heat proved to be an even greater success than the company’s original Arc Gas Light invention.

With the odorless and inexpensive use of gas, the General Gas Light Company’s "Humphrey" brand for lighting and heating was a popular choice in the home and office during the roaring 20’s.

⭐Part Two of This Month in Humphrey Products History⭐

Introducing: "The Humphrey Radiantfire"

During WWI, Arc Gas Light sales were slowing due to demands of the war and continued emergence of electricity for lighting.

To diversify, in 1916 the General Gas Light Company develops the "Radiantfire" home heater innovation, an elegant home gas fireplace insert, which eliminates the need for burning wood and coal. Unfortunately, due to the war and slowing Gas Light sales, it would be two years until the company is ready for mass production and a broad market "Radiantfire" introduction.

Boasting "No ashes, No dirt, No gas odors" in the home, the Radiantfire is on the market in 1919 and becomes an instant success.🔥

⭐This Month in Humphrey Products History⭐

Since their start in 1901, the General Gas Light Company had enjoyed rapid growth every year with Alfred Humphrey's Gas Arc Light invention. This lead to sales branch offices to be opened in San Francisco, New York, Havana, London and Bremen, Germany. By 1916, nearly two million had been sold!

But like many manufacturers during this time, World War I caused stress on the company. Workers had to leave to serve their country and raw materials were prioritized for the war effort. Coal, a key ingredient to produce the gas used with their lighting products, becomes scarce.

The steady sales growth had simply vanished, and of course, looming is the Edison electric light bulb invention gaining momentum in major cities. For the first time, the company was faced with sudden adversity and needed to respond. They needed something new. They need an innovation…
