The summer sun here in Johnson City is relentless, but your yard doesn't have to suffer! With a solid maintenance plan, your grass and garden can thrive right through the dog days of summer.
Here are a few simple ways to help your landscape beat the heat:
π§ Water smart: Water deeply and infrequently early in the morning. This helps roots grow deeper into the ground where the soil stays cool and moist.
π± Mow high: Raise your mower blade to leave the grass a little taller. Taller grass shades the soil and keeps roots cool. Just be sure not to cut more than one-third of the blade at a time so you do not stress the plant.
ποΈ Protect the soil: Add a thick layer of mulch to your garden beds to lock in moisture, regulate temperature, and block weeds. If your plants look thirsty, skip the heavy chemical fertilizers and use a gentle, slow-release organic compost instead.
