Got tired of making no progress on my sauna siding because of the cold weather. It makes too much dust cutting fiber cement with a saw so I built a break. It’s slower because you have to score it first but no dust at all and the break is plenty straight. I definitely could have bought a shear but this used up some scrap and was free.

Made some progress on the gassifier.

It's been a busy couple months but this weekend I was finally able to get back to my wood gassifier project. This is a filter element for the wood gas. Eventually it will be filled with straw or wood chips to filter out any tar v***r that made it past the cooling stage. The way I understand it is they use straw because it is cheap and easy to get. And these filters have to be cleaned often.

After waiting weeks for a slip roller I ordered to show up I finally managed to finish my grate assembly. There isnt much to it but it's one more major component finished.

Made some more progress on the gasifier over the weekend. Never going to try to process a ladder into a machine frame ever again.

Didn't make much progress this weekend. I have been sick for the past few days. But I got the pyrolysis chamber and the condensation tank welded up at least.

Made some progress on the wood gassifier this weekend. Installed the air jacket, ignition port, and the pyrolysis accelerator insulation layer.

Finished the ash clean out, reduction chamber insulation, hearth plate and choke plate. Think I'm gonna call it a day.

Decided to build a wood gassifier to heat and power my shop. As soon as I get the bugs worked out I'm going to build a custom pelletizer to turn grass clippings and wood shavings into fuel. Getting pretty excited. The plate in the mill is going to be the hearth plate of the gassifier. Needs to be 14 inches in diameter. Unfortunately my mill only has 11 inches of y axis😩

It's been a while since I have posted on here. In that time I have moved from Brookings SD to Jasper MN. And my first child was born. This was my first machining project in my new shop space. It is the body of a steady rest I built for an old Atlas 10 lathe i picked up. Didnt come with much in the way of tooling. I just want to let you all know that odd jobs is alive and well in Jasper as Schafer Machine and Repair.
