As our nation prepares for the 250th anniversary of American independence (America250) in July 2026, the eyes of the world will be on Washington, D.C. Our mission is to ensure that the National Mall—"America’s Front Yard"—is safe, beautiful, and ready to welcome millions of visitors for this historic milestone.

From the Lincoln Memorial to the U.S. Capitol, the National Mall is a symbol of our democracy. By addressing subsurface issues and restoring the integrity of this iconic landscape, our team is playing a vital role in preserving our national legacy.

The National Mall and Memorial Parks team recently shared updates on these essential infrastructure improvements as we work together to get the Mall "birthday-ready."

Repairs are underway on a sinkhole under the National Mall turf panels between 12th and 14th streets. This is just one of many projects going on to make Washington, D.C. safe and beautiful in the build up to the 250th anniversary of American Independence in July.

Modernization at Fort Buchanan 🇵🇷🎖️
At GMHILL, we believe that providing world-class facilities is essential to maintaining the readiness of our nation’s heroes. We are proud to see Fort Buchanan highlighted in the news for its massive infrastructure transformation, including the upcoming construction of the Advanced Skills Training (AST) Barracks.

Our Role
Serving as the Designer of Record, the GMHILL team designed this state-of-the-art 30,000 SF barracks for the 1-333rd REGT (MFTB) schoolhouse. This facility isn't just a building; it's a critical readiness platform designed to house hundreds of service members with building systems tailored for the Caribbean environment.

Fort Buchanan is the Army’s home in the Caribbean and a vital hub for global mobilization. By designing facilities like the AST Barracks, our team helps ensure that our Soldiers have the elite environment they need to train, recover, and deploy.

To ensure the mission was met with precision, we even utilized Augmented Reality (AR) to provide stakeholders with a digital walk-through of the design, allowing for real-time engagement before a single brick was laid.

Our team performed the essential Requirements Analysis (RA), Planning Charrette (PC), and full DD Form 1391 development, including the parametric cost estimates that helped secure the justification for this massive modernization effort.

Known as the "Pit Crew of the American Warfighter" Anniston Army Depot is where the heavy armor that protects our Soldiers is reborn.

By transforming the CRF, we are ensuring that the facility is as high-performing and resilient as the equipment it produces. Our work on the CRF project helps ensure that this facility supports the Army’s mission for the next 40+ years.

We are proud to have supported USACE Mobile in planning this state-of-the-art industrial hub.

We are proud to highlight our role as the Prime Design-Build firm for the renovation of Building 3270 at Fort Benning, now the 1st Lt. Ralph "Bud" Moore Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) Center. This project is a testament to our ability to deliver a seamless transition from concept to completion, serving as both the Designer of Record and the General Contractor.

Named after a Georgia native, two-time Olympian, and decorated Army hero, this state-of-the-art center is dedicated to the "whole Soldier." By integrating high-performance design and construction, our team—led by Architect Todd Dunavant, Design PM Liz Long, and Construction PM Phil Hayes— the team transformed this space into a hub for physical, mental, and spiritual readiness. Our mission was to ensure that those who serve us have a facility as resilient and elite as they are.

At GMHILL, safety is a top priority. We recently celebrated the 2024 Safety Week with presentations at our Army Reserve Center job site in Suffolk, VA. The presentations included fall protection donning, as well as heat stress & heat exhaustion – what are the differences and know the signs. Always remember…success is no accident!
