BELS - as noted in our most recent edition of THE STANDARD - is celebrating its 85th year and was brought to life on Sept. 2.
So Happy Birthday BELS!
In that time, this agency has been dedicated to protecting the public life, health and safety by ensuring the licensure of more than 20,000 individual licensees and the businesses that offer to practice.
But it's more than that. This board has shifted and changed so that different voices are represented and heard by those professionals who are still practicing and that an ever-changing licensee community are able to see a reflection of that diversity when it visits our website or attends a meeting.
In 2018, exams were decoupled to give those on the front end of their licensure journey a better opportunity to move forward; public members were added to better protect the public and civil engineers were given the opportunity to earn their PLS (provided they met the requirements) to better address the shortfall within that community.
It's going to be exciting to see what happens in the coming years between No. 86 and No. 100.
