Golden corral 5:30pm
Attendance: duane messner, john romero, cheryl gant, brandi bruns, amy procopio, kenny lachman, bert reigelsperger, tim o'toole
Guests: joey anderson and manager stacey of woodmen of the world
new business: the union has purchased 1.5 flag poles for the county responders memorial. the other 1.5 flagpoles have been donated by WoW.
Bert presented the union with the idea of obtaining a loan from the union to finance an honor guard challenge coin. coins would be purchased at a rate of $2/3 per coin
and sold for $10 as a fund raiser for the honor guard. the loan from the union would be to cover the cost of creating/making the coins. the order would be for 1000 coins
that could be sold at any event or function (ie: CCCC fire college, personal purchase, etc.) the sale of the first 200/300 coins would go back to the union to cover the cost
initial loan. after that, the profits would go to the honor guard to cover the cost of gloves, hats, flags, etc. for the use of the guard. Bert had some examples with prices just
for an initial idea of cost. there was no motion made due to bert wanting to do more research because the costs were so subjective to the artwork and amount. he stated
once he had a more clear idea, he would then propose a motion. he simply wanted to pitch the idea to the union and receive feedback through discussion.
Joey Anderson and his manager Stacey discussed some products and plans that Woodmen of the World is now offering. one is called the Patriot Plan and is for 1st responders. it is an option that you can take with you when you leave/retire/etc. it is not a line of duty death policy, but more like a whole life policy. i believe that it is open for anyone even if you've been told you were uninsurable. There was also a cancer policy that could be purchased, however it must be purchased BEFORE 10/01/2013 as WoW will be dropping this policy after that date!!! Joey also read the annual report, discussed what Woodmen has done throughout the community and how they give back to Onslow Co. Questions on these plans and products should be directed to Joey at 910-938-9066 (office) or 910-358-2948 (cell). Travis Payne, our union attorney, has provided a copy of a cd entitled, "Know your Rights". John has copies for everyone. This discusses worker's comp benefits, how to file claims, WHAT NOT TO DO/ WHAT TO DOCUMENT about claims or if you think your rights have been infringed upon. This goes for any reason...........if you feel that your rights have been infringed upon by a superior, company officer, subordinate, fellow FF, city hall, etc. there is a lot of great information on this disc. Travis nor the union can help you if you have not documented in detail the infringements, or the day before you are fired, quit, etc. This disc can answer many questions BEFORE that point.
There was no old business discussed. Motion was made to adjourn.
The next mtg. will be on June 13, 2013 at 6:30pm at the JFD Volunteer Bldg. on Chaney Ave.
