We were excited to represent ESW: Biofuels at ESWCon over the past few days! We have learned so much about renewability and projects from other chapters, and we are sad to leave the beautiful city of Atlanta. Thanks for hosting us GeorgiaTech; we hope to come back some day!!

Here's a long overdue introduction to Sai Mallipedhi, a new member of our team who joined in the fall. Sai is a freshman from Allentown, PA, who's planning to major in chemical engineering. He is really excited to help design a biodiesel reactor on campus with the R&D team!

We hope everyone enjoyed their last day of class! We recently had the opportunity to visit classrooms at Belle Sherman Elementary School, where we got to teach young members of our community about sustainability! Go alternative energy!

Our R&D sub-team recently pitched their proposal to start making biodiesel in the lab! They will be starting with pure vegetable oil to master the process and then move onto waste oil from restaurants and fraternities, designing a pretreatment process to deal with any free fatty acids or excess water in the waste oil. We hope to eventually create biodiesel that can be used with Cornell tractors’ current fuel, helping to reduce Cornell’s GHG emissions!
