A core sample can help determine if your system requires treatment to optimize its performance, adjustment of chemicals, or if additional media is needed, among other things.

A core sample is a physical measurement of the depth of each layer of media in your system. By sampling media, you can detect early signs of depletion and can determine when it's time to replenish the media. This helps you save money by ensuring that you don't waste media by backwashing too often.
The frequency of sampling depends on systems conditions, size and type of filter, amount and type of use, amount and type of contaminants in the water and so on. Typically, core samples should be taken at least every three years in a system with regular use.
Once we receive the sample, Filtronics will complete an analysis of the media and determine if any replenishment is needed, sending a proposal if warranted.

Obtaining a media core sample is a part of our regular annual maintenance contract and recommended for all of our systems. If you do not have a contract, do not hesitate to call Filtronics at 714-630-5040 and we will send you core sampling instructions or schedule a service call to perform the sampling.

The new year is beginning with some advantages over the start of the last two years, even while still in the midst of the pandemic.

With the passage of the INVEST in American Act, billions of dollars will be disbursed in the U.S. in order to improve our infrastructure, of which water and wastewater is an important component. While the distribution of funds will not be immediate, over the next several years we will see rounds of applications and millions of dollars funded for different types of projects in the water sector.

That being said, determining what water projects are needed and to apply for grants and funding to reduce the costs is here. We urge you to take advantage of these opportunities and begin the process now.

The Filtronics team will continue to serve municipalities by supplying our efficient, cost saving water treatment systems to meet the goals for compliance with EPA, state and local requirements, and providing clean, safe drinking water to those communities.

Since early 2020, the pandemic has brought many obstacles to the manufacturing industry. Along with vendors closing their doors, reduction in staff, little or no available inventory, and extended lead times, we have seen costs rise for steel and other necessary components at rates never seen before. Adding to the supply chain issues, the transportation industry has been severely affected. Increasing costs, difficulty in meeting contract deadlines, fulfilling parts orders, and providing timely customer service are some of the struggles facing manufacturers.

Working with a company with nearly 50 years of experience in the industry and established vendor and customer relationships, along with a robust manufacturer’s representative network can be quite an advantage if you are considering the purchase of a water filtration system. Headlines in recent months have brought to our attention harmful contaminants in several brands of drinking water sold to the public.

It has been reported that dangerously high levels of heavy metals, such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury have been found in many of the leading brands of baby foods. Autism and ADHD in children have been linked to these toxic metals. Earlier this year, we heard reports of high levels of lead and arsenic in vinegar including some major brands of balsamic vinegar.

These are just a few examples of harmful contaminants in products in the water used to make products we consume.

We need water to drink, to cook, to bathe, to wash our clothes, to water our landscaping among many other uses. These issues are another example of how proper water filtration is critical.

The majority of our water use, 70% worldwide, is used for agricultural irrigation. The state of California is the 5th largest supplier of food in the world and most of the agriculture produced in California is grown in the Central Valley. Nearly all processed tomatoes, lemons, pistachios, artichokes and almonds are grown in the Central Valley, where the soil is unmatched anywhere else in the United States. To get some perspective on how much water is needed to grow some of these crops and produce some other items, please see below.
It requires 1.1 gallons of water to grow one almond
It requires 4.9 gallons of water to grow one walnut
It requires 106 gallons of water to produce one ounce of beef
It requires 13.8 gallons of water to produce one orange
It requires 18.5 gallons of water to produce one apple
It requires 6.6 gallons of water to produce one potato
It requires 3.4 gallons of water to produce one tomato
It requires 1,083 gallons of water to make one cotton T-shirt
Now remember that California is the 5th largest supplier of food in the world. The amount of water needed is staggering. Water is our most precious resource and we are consuming it at a rate that is rapidly depleting our supply. Let’s be wise about how we use it.

Purchasing a water treatment system is a huge expense. There are a multitude of considerations that must be taken into account in order to make the best and most informed decision.

Some of the major ones are capital costs, chemical costs, electrical costs and maintenance costs. Expenses for a water treatment system vary greatly, depending on what type of system is selected, what contaminants need treatment, and what equipment and chemicals are needed to reduce the contaminants, to name just a few.

Filtronics always recommends a pilot test be performed before a decision is made. A successful pilot test proves with a small-scale system the efficiency and effectiveness you can expect with our full-scale system. Lab samples are sent to an independent laboratory for verification. After we complete a pilot test, and receive the results from the the independent lab, the report we provide can give you the results of the samples taken, with graphs. The report also provides projected capital, operational and maintenance costs that would be expected with the purchase of a Filtronics system. The low-cost pilot test also serves as the basis for our performance warranty for the full-size system.

If you are planning to invest in a water treatment plant, let us prove that our technology will solve your issues and keep you in compliance for many, many years. Contact Filtronics today.
